Thought the fight was overall very dissappointing, I didn't expect the styles clash to produce this kind of dud, but overall it was a fail. Bradley getting inside and smoothering Alexander, Alexander tying up, ref break, then repeat the process. Combine that with the headbutts and it made for a less than entertianing fight. Kudos to Bradley, he was the more effective guy, even though I felt his performance was shakey at best and this fight actually caused me to re-evaluate my perspective on the division. I think Alexander and Khan would be a great fight, as they both like fighting at range, the handspeed from both would be great to watch, and overall I think this would be the best fight that could be made in the division. Bradley vs. Maidana would also be a good fight because they both come forward relentlessly and it would be fun to watch them slug it out. Khan vs. Bradley will be a snoozer similar to what you saw last night, with Khan trying to fight at range Tim bulling in head first, alot of tie up/break...tie up/break and I'm not nearly as excited to see that I fight as I once was. Who knows how it would go, because if Bradley is planning to fight this way going forward it makes rounds hard to score, and he sort of took the Hopkins approach only with more punching...at times. It seems just by glancing at the first page on the board that many underestimate the cut Alexander had, combined with the last butt in which you can see sweat and vasoline fly and assumedly go in the kids eye...hence the "it's burning...stinging" comments. That being said, I'm sure he could have continued if you look at this foul alone, but if you are already one eyed, and you are now stinging and burning in your "good eye" I'm sure it would aplify the affects and make it tough to continue, especially against this caliber of opponent. Either way, it was a shitty fight and I was dissappointed in their performance. I thought Bradley looked slightly above average, Alexander slightly below average to average, overall nothing special shown from either guy and no definitive conclusions can be drawn, other than neither are ready for Pac or PBF. I think Alexander COULD beat Khan, I think Maidana would beat Bradley, I think Khan-Bradley is a toss up based on the styles (even though with Khan being conventional, it should be "better"), I think Alexander would beat Maidana, and basically the division is a cluster **** with 4 good fighters, but all had their opportunities to establish they were THE guy and all failed in my opinion. Not to take anything away from Bradley and Khan because they are the ones who pulled out the wins, and at the end of the day that's what matters, but neither did so in a convincing way, neither clearly established they were clearly better than the other three guys, and all showed vulnerability and flaws in their games. I look forward to seeing how it all shakes out going forward.
Pretty good summary, none of the top guys at 140 are perfect or anywhere near that but im sure there will be better matchups in the future
Not a great fight. Was disapointed with Alexander although I thought he boxed well in parts. I agree with what Jim Watt said though, something along the lines that if he lost he went home with an excuse and if he won he had two titles.
I dont think the fight was as bad as people say, it was decent. Alexander obviously still has a lot to learn. I think bradley can give khan trouble based on styles but I still believe amir will stop him or win a ud.
You're right, I guess when I say it was "shitty", I should have included relative to my hopes it was shitty. It was good in parts, I just think that Bradley smoothering Alexander for the most part, and when he got inside not being overly effective took some of the shine off. I expected there to be more action and more meaningful punches landed. I just didn't see this styles cluster **** coming, which is probably my bad, but I just didn't expect it to be this way. Not that Bradley couldn't/wouldn't have won either way, I was just a little suprised by his approach. I will say it showed what many had said prior to the fight that Alexander struggles to adjust, because he never adjusted to Bradley's style.
