As much as you hate it, holding and smothering your opponent's work has become part of the game. Floyd did it against Hatton, and he was praised for it. Hatton did it against nearly all of his opponents, and the Brits loved him. Mosley drowned Margarito with the same stuff, and we enjoyed every moment of it. Hopkins does it all the time, and he's admired for being the clever veteran that knows every trick in the book. I could go on all day. We can't pick and choose when we want holding to be regarded disgraceful. I admit, I wasn't too thrilled/entertained with the way Alexander was doing it, but, if other fighters can use it to their advantage and get decent wins from them, then why can't Alexander? As a Khan fan, it's a trick that I wish he'd be able to pick up, too.
We are talking about obsessive clinching, what floyd did to hatton was nowhere remotely near the level of what we just saw in that video. So stop talking ****.
This guy is just full of ****. Hatton clinched more in that fight than mayweather did. Anytime hatton got mayweather against the ropes he would hold him. But even then it was not as obsessive as what we just watched in that video. Alexander clinching was disgraceful and the ref should have deducted him points for it.
There were quite a few occasions where Hatton would get close, and Floyd would land a quick right and immediately lock Hatton's arms to render him ineffective close up. Smart tactics. It wasn't nearly as bad as Alexander's, but my point is, both guys used clinching to help get the job done. As well as the other guys that I've mentioned. It's become part of the game.
