You silly ****, did I say Floyd was 'obsessively' clinching to the level of Alexander? I said holding and smothering has become a normal part of the game, and merely used Floyd-Hatton, as well as others, as an example of it being so. I also went on to say I wasn't too thrilled with the way Alexander was doing it. ****ing hell , your ass gets sore everytime Mayweather is mentioned, doesn't it? You might wanna' get that seen to. Check yourself, before you wreck yourself, because *****'ism is bad for your health. I mean, any sense of something negative even slightly being associated with Mayweather, you can't help but fly into your protective *****-mode. It's pathetic.
**** that, I've never praised or applauded anyone for clinching. Not in any of the fights you mentioned or any others for that matter. Excessive clinching is a ***** tactic. **** like that is the reason I don't like UFC.
He clinches as much as some fighters throw punches per round. Clinching is illegal, ref's need to get tougher on it. I clinch when I fight too, sometimes its just necessary when hurt to insert the odd illegal move to survive, ie clinching, but to use it the entire match almost like it was another weapon ie jab, hook etc. It ruins fights.
Definitely. I'd even say clinching is worse, because it easily spoils and turns a fight very ugly. With pushing, the fighter is actually exerting a lot of energy himself and only briefly halts his opponent's work. Clinching is more effective, though, and so I'd rather see Khan do that instead of pushing.
No, I don't like the tactic and it's something referees should crack down on. It shouldn't be legal to prevent your opponent from throwing punches on the inside. That's what I think but it's also what the rules say. There's a reason holding is illegal when it's excessive, because it makes for an unfair fight. Holding, pushing, running, turning your back etc., are all things which aren't illegal like a headbutt is but, when overused, should be punished. Alexander's holding was horrible because it completely took away a big part of Maidana's gameplan. Everyone knew that Alexander was better on the outside and because he held excessively, Maidana wasn't able to do anything on the inside either. It's unfair.
