if he had a heart...he will be a bit tad faster... devon is fast but has no courage to go all out and unleash his potential... in short devon is a *****...
He's not slow, but he looked pretty average in there, aside from the handspeed. Arm punches, missing a lot, holding as much as possible and never really sitting down on anything, looking far too wary and rarely engaging. All hype, little substance. It's not even one of those cases of someone being great but having an unfriendly style for the audience (like Floyd/Baldo). It's a case of someone being frankly unimpressive AND having an unfriendly style. Bad combination. Bradley didn't look much better, but he definitely won. Landed a few decent, solid shots. When considering the hype around him, though...I have to wonder if that's the same guy. I also saw him when he fought Witter, and I wasn't impressed at all. I just thought it was some random, mediocre fighter. Certainly nothing noteworthy. Khan is flawed, especially defensively, but he looks like much more of a talent than these guys. Even Maidana looks better. All four of them should forget about trying to fight Pac or Floyd. As I've said before, the only modern fights I normally bother to watch are Pac or Mayweather ones. Even watching them beat up old, faded fighters is more entertaining than this rubbish.
I think Alexander has something wrong in his technique that prevents him from utilizing his fast hands in a fast manner. I saw the same thing. Kotelnik had little trouble landing and Bradley landed some clean shots too. Bradley's technique could use a tune up as well. He could be a very good fighter if he kept his hands in better position. A real puncher might catch him between his guard. Neither guy has a beautiful technique, despite the buildup. I do understand that when an orthodox fighter fights a southpaw technique is not always king. But I did see flaws in each guy. Khan has a major flaw in his chin, so either could possibly catch him. But he also will probably land the fast straight shots on either, as long as the fight lasts. Should be some fun matchups. Neither guy should fight PBF or Manny right now.
I've been following boxing for years. Just because very few modern fighters interest me doesn't mean I don't love the sport. I like watching skilled/talented people like Ali, Whitaker, Ray Leonard, Hearns, etc. I also enjoyed more recent performances, like a prime Barrera throwing beautiful combinations and leaping jabs against Hamed, or Quartey showcasing his terrific jab against Park, the footwork and timing of Floyd against Corrales, etc. I look at Bradley and Alexander and I don't understand the hype. I dunno how this translates to not loving the sport. From what little I've seen of Donaire, I prefer the way he looks in the ring, even though he hasn't had great competition. I don't even need to point out just how much better Pac and Floyd are than these guys, either.
The Donaire and Montiel match interests me. I haven't seen much of either man, but from what I have seen I think they show some good talent and skills. Montiel pretty much destroyed Hasegawa, who had been on a nice winning streak up until that point, and Donaire looks very fast, with a great left-hook and some decent footwork. He also sometimes throws from unusual angles, which I like.
I definitely think he has speed, it's just that his offensive aresnal is limited, and too be completely honest, I think he's still green. With a new trainer he could be a serious threat in the division.
He isn't slow at all. His first problem is he RELYS on his LEGS for his defense COMPLETELY. His second problem is he NEEDS a fighter to be in FRONT of him STATIONARY to feel confident enough to be the aggressor. His punching power is ok but when you are completely thinking defense and moving backwards you cannot commit to your punch. And when your opponent is making you miss so much and tagging you with counters occasionally, you get hesitant.
You're wrong if you think Khan looks better than Bradley, and you're completely out of your mind if you think Maidana looks better. I don't even think it's necessary to explain Maidana's slugger style, but since you mentioned Khan... Khan is faster, but Khan is also very predictable. He doesn't throw from many different angles, and his defense has signficant holes in it. He also appears not to be able to fight on the inside. Khan does the same thing over and over again, and while he's fast, Bradley who has a great jab and gives his opponents many different looks will be able to time Khan and get inside. When he's inside, he'll further expose Khan's defensive flaws and beat the hell out of him on the inside. I think Khan is being highly overrated. Like Alexander, he has a lot of potential, but he hasn't put it all together. Bradley on the other hand may not be as fast as Khan, hit as hard as Maidana, or be a Southpaw like Alexander, but he is a very well rounded and intelligent fighter that knows exactly what he has to do to win a fight.
Keep in mind that I was mainly talking within context of the Alexander/Bradley fight, rather than their careers as a whole. (Well, also the Bradley/Witter fight, as that was the first time I saw Bradley fight.) As for Khan, I know his strengths and flaws very well. I've actually seen every professional bout he's ever had, along a few of his bouts in the Olympics. He relies on pure speed and he has a good jab, but his defence is like swiss cheese. Pressure often makes him panic and he can be hit consistently. I still say that both him and Maidana actually looked better than Alexander and Bradley looked in their fight. Khan threw sharp, accurate shots (the body shot alone that KD'd Maidana was a better punch than any I saw in the Bradley/Alexander match) and displayed impressive speed, as always. Maidana looked limited, of course, but his punches also seemed to be thrown with much more of a professional style than the amateur pitty-pat of Alexander. Maidana threw with conviction, and he even timed Khan quite well with counter overhand rights, leading to his crushing tenth round chance. In short, it looked like a fight between two good fighters. Not GREAT fighters, and certainly not legends or future legends, but 'good', albeit quite flawed. Bradley/Alexander looked like a fight between two 'okay' boxers, with exception of their good handspeed. If I didn't know who they were, and I was passing the screen, I wouldn't even make a mental note about them. I would just shrug and move on. Maybe they're much better than they showed the other night, but that performance in itself was just unimpressive. No other way to say it. (Looking better than someone in an isolated match doesn't mean you're a better fighter overall.)
