He was dropped, took 8 answered punches, most of which landed, was dropped again, then took another 10 unanswered punches. He was out on his feet at the end, pinned in the corner, he hadn't thrown a punch in well over a minute, that's not a fighter who is in anyway able to defend himself.
Futhermore, neither Wlad nor any member of his team ever questioned the referee's stoppage in that fight.
Povetkin experienced a difficult period before this fight, he changed his team and coach, he had a disgusting training camp, and he underestimated Huck and thought that is would be light walk. I'm sure that in the rematch Povetkin would knock Huck out
But team change couldn't weaken his chin, and I was referring to Luis Fernandez' post where he basically said that AJ can't hurt Povetkin.
If Joshua goes down he's not going to get lucky again like he did vs WK. Povetkin will close the show.
I agree, of course, AJ can hurt Povetkin, and I think he will win by KO in the 8-10 rounds, but still with Huck the main problem was that Povetkin was out of shape.
It was a premature stoppage. Joshua didn't land any shots when ref jumped in. He also looked about to be gassed by the effort aswell. I still believe Joshua would have won but did'nt like the stoppage at all. Have watched the fight several times and it still doesn't look good. 50-50 until the end.
Not throwing a punch in a round isn't a good enough reason to stop a fight. Wladimir Klitschko has gone through fights throwing only one or two punches in some rounds and on occasions, he'd spend 3/4 of a round not throwing a single punch. This is because he is a patient boxer and when he had done that before in fights, those fights weren't stopped. Wladimir Klitschko literally blocked nearly every punch Joshua threw at him whilst he was against the ropes. And he looked more like Mayweather than himself, when doing so. So how the hell can he be out on his feet when he is showing the defensive ability to block punches with very good timing? And how the hell can one justify a stoppage when Wlad showed such defensive capabilities? And by the way, Joshua only scored one clean, clear and a legitimate knockdown in that round. The other one happened by Joshua literally pushing Wlad down to the canvas.
Yes! So what? It's a combat sport! And in a combat sport, if you get hit, you're going to hurt. It's as simple as that! Unless one is on large amounts of painkillers or they are an entity that doesn't feel any pain. Such as an android! So why should I care that Povetkin was 'hurt'? Even though he was not even dropped, or even close to getting stopped?
The reverse could also be true! Since Joshua gassed himself out after dropping Wladimir Klitschko in the 5th round where he himself looked totally done.
