Russian boxer, WBO International and WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (33-1, 23 KOs) begins preparations for his next fight. January 30, he and his team went to Sochi, where he will hold the first stage of training.

Now Alexander Povetkin leads the ratings of the two leading boxing organizations - WBA and WBO, and in fact is a mandatory challenger for the world title immediately on two versions. The holders of these champion titles Briton Anthony Joshua (WBA) and New Zealander Joseph Parker (WBO) will hold a unification match on March 31 this year, and the Russian will get the right to meet with the winner of this fight

Ryabinsky on Twitter confirmed this information. "It's true. The contract has not yet been signed, but almost all have agreed, "Ryabinsky wrote

Am I misremembering, or was Hearn involved in setting this up?

I feel like this only makes sense for building up Povetkin’s British rep for a later clash with AJ.

I like Price, but he doesn’t deserve this fight...

If Price wins this the roof will come down from the cheering. He won't win, but still, you never know, sometimes the universe has a sense of irony.

Poor, poor David Price. looks like they want to give Povetkin a brutal KO win on British soil to promote a possible clash between Joshua and him.

This also means that Fury will be stripped of his Ring title now no matter what, as there's no top5 fighter available for him to fight even if he wanted to.

This is the last stop before AJ.

Povetkin must just make sure he remembers to take the winner's train, or he's going to be hitching back to Russia together with the remains of his career in a burlap bag.

If Price wins, I would argue that it is the greatest upset win for a British fighter ever. I reckon this will be the most fun fight on the card.

it'll be fun while it lasts!

if you were price and his team would you work on stamina and fitness and try to keep povetkin on the end of the jab and run for 12 rounds or do you train for 3 rounds and work on a ko?

this is the sad truth. AJ is continuing his tour of the near 40somethings.

that is, practise getting koed, lying on a stretcher, getting carried out etc.
