Teddy Atlas has a terrible track record as a trainer. In world title fights, he has only one win and many losses.

Teddy has left every single fighter he's ever worked with on bad terms. Sometimes he quit (Briggs, Grant, etc) sometimes he was fired (LaLonde, Tyson, etc).

Povetkin is better off without Teddy, who never made it through high school and spent time in a juvenile detention center and has always seemed to me to be somewhat mentally unstable.

Listen to George Foreman's comments about Teddy not warming Grant up before this fight:

Lampley and Steward talk about how Teddy had been verbally abusive to Michael Grant before the fight, and even had him crying.

Teddy yells at Moorer, distracts him, and Foreman becomes the oldest man ever to win a world HW title:

Teddy quit as Shannon Briggs trainer after Shannon was knocked out:

  3. I think Teddy is good. He is mentally unstable for sure but he is interesting. He does a lot for kids charity and **** so he gets a plus in my book. He's no Angelo Dundee but I think he has some good qualities.

None of the qualities you listed are about his abilities as a trainer though.

Teddy needs his fighters to experience some sort of hunger that he must've had during his fighting years. When he sees something in a fighter, he makes it so personal that he actually sees this guy as his kid or some ****. This can be good to a point, but he can't expect in the ring perfection from every fighter. I mean, aside from his exploits in the corner and on TV, no one really knows a damned thing about his personal boxing achievements.

Sad though that the few boxers who do display near perfection inside the ring, he has to find something wrong about them, then spend the rest of that particular fighter's career talking about how he is a KO waiting to happen, or criticizing his opponents for not getting it done.:rofl

To be honest I have mixed views on him. While he's a nutcase, doesn't really train Povetkin etc, I did notice some improvements with Povetkin especially on the technical side in the Boswell and Chagaev fights so I am not really sure if Atlas is for the good or for the bad really.

You do realize Povetkin had probably the best amateur record of all time at super heavyweight? Hopefully you've watched some of his amateur and early pro fights.

No, Povetkin went downhill from working with Teddy. He was very hesitant in the Firtha fight.

Povetkin hurt his hand in the second round in the Firtha fight.

Was that the excuse he used?

Better than saying he had a sore little toe.

Teddy is pretty damn psychotic, but he does seem to know his ****. We'll see with Povetkin's next fight how he does.

    Yes.

Povetkin said today he's had an excellent training camp with his new trainer. Teddy had him spar 6 rounds, his new trainer has him spar 12. I think Povetkin is in a bit better shape for this one.

Look up Blog Talk Radio from a few months ago and hear what Chauncy Welliver said about the preparation for Povetkin's fight with Chagaev. Teddy said on ESPN that Povetkin had no sparring before he got there in early August, but Chauncy said he and others had been sparring with Povetkin during July and when he arrived, Teddy sent them away!
