I'd have to agree with you on that one. Chambers has the ideal style to "survive" against almost anyone.
Yes, while Povetkin did beat Chambers, I see Povetkin as being much more vulnerable to an earlier KO than Chambers was. Povetkin, with his come forward style will have his chin tested REAL fast........and REAL often. He'll fall within 6 or 7 rounds, as he'll take a hell of a beating, trying to worm his way inside.
Or it could be that the division is filled with lesser quality fighters in general. The Klitschko's are the last remaining duo with talent from the 90's heavyweight scene. The New Millenium heavyweights simply either show up fat, poorly conditioned, or need to be fighting a weight class or two below heavyweight limits. Vitali was able to come back and pummel the reigning WBC champ after a 4 yr layoff and countless injuries ffs. He and his brother Wladimir deserve credit for staying in shape and dedicated to the sport, even though they don't have to box for a living. The best US heavyweights really are playing in the NBA right now. More money, less risk.
He fought two tomato cans, we don't know how much he has improved. The only question remains is if Povetkin has the balls to fight Wladimir.
Povetkin has actually gotten worse as a fighter since the Chambers fight. His current level of oppostion is horrible. And Atlas is a terrible trainer. At first, Povetkin was doing great ... Donald, Byrd, Chambers ... and then he went all downhill from there.
Nobody in the NBA would be able to survive five minutes in the ring, even with training. What you probably mean is that the people that previously might have had the potential to become fighters are in the NBA. I would say more likely in the NFL (linebackers and defensive backs, and maybe running backs), but you may have a point. However, boxing requires so many different skills, including hunger, drive, manic determination, etc., that there are no guarantees. One in ten thousand great athletes have all those things. The reason there were more great heavyweights from the US in the past was because of lack of options. Where you have poverty you get a huge amount of people entering boxing at an early age. That's the only way it happens in a capitalist society. The other way for this to happen, as in the former and present (Cuba) communist countries, is for the the government to actively search out talented kids for the various sports and get them going at an early age. The former Soviet Union and Cuba did this and have produced a lot of fighters. And generally speaking you can't really start boxing late even if you're a good athlete. So nobody can just come over from the NBA and test your theory.
only problem ishaye doesnt want to fight him. he wants to defend his garbage belt vs guy like john ruiz who is somehow a mandatory and then another mandatory with the winner of meehan vs valeuv :rofl
I like povetkin and dislike Atlas...........wlad 6-7 th round tko........and atlas is wrong for the 12th time in a row on the Klitschkos !!
If you watched Povetkin's last couple fights, you would see what their strategy is for beating Klitschko. They're going to try to use upper body movement, together with a forward stalking motion, to get inside the jab and throw combinations to the body. If they can keep Klitschko from constantly clinching, that's probably the best strategy there is out there. As Ronnie mentioned though, Povetkin used to have very little head movement and come straight in. He won't learn how to fight like a D'Amato fighter overnight (which is what Atlas is doing with him), so they're trying to delay the fight as long as possible. If he's forced to fight Wlad now, then I don't think he's ready yet. If he can have another 2 or 3 interim fights, then maybe he can get there.
Povetkin doesnt pressure quick enough has poor defence and average power. He is going to get KO'd. The only guy with a decent chance is David Haye IMO. Tua also has a pure punchers chance.
Imo Haye - Tua - Solis have a chance to beat The Klitschkos in this Bull**** Heavyweight Division (Povetkin is not ready )
Circling to the right is what Ray Austin did with devastating results, because that moved him directly into Wlad's lead left hook. It's that left hook and the threat of it that is a big reason guys remain pinned in the plane in front of him.
