 Guess Povetkin MIGHT know better then a message board trash talker....

Rumors of heavyweight contender and the former unified cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk stepping in to fight Alexander Povetkin before his rematch with Dillian Whyte have started doing the rounds lately. The logic behind this is to give Whyte more time to heal from his last bout.

Povetkin, however, does not seem too keen on the idea. He has also reasoned that he doesn’t see any objective behind the two facing-off. In an interview with World Boxing News, he said, “Oleksandr is a professional and strong boxer. But to be honest, I don’t see any reasons for us to fight.”

“He has his path, which is different from mine. If there were two only boxers in the world, I’d see the point in such a fight. However, there are many other opponents in boxing. So I don’t see us fighting with Usyk soon.”

This. Povetkin fighting Usyk makes absolutely no sense. Usyk’s mobility and handspeed are all wrong for Povetkin at this stage of his career.

Thankfully, Russians are borderline immune to this virus, due to bear meat and beet kvass. But I am sorry it scuttled the fight date.
