This would be an extremely competitive fight, but Povetkin would win clearly over the stretch. Povetkin at this best -- and I'm not talking about some of the stinker performances we saw under Atlas, that was a subpar Sasha -- is hard to hold off. The only kinds of fighters who can beat Povetkin are those who combine huge size, strength, skill, and power (Klitschko) or those who combine blazing speed and power (Haye). Povetkin throws too much leather for any other kind of heavyweight.

I only saw Sultan Ibragimov fight once and that was against Wlad in 2008. I vowed never to watch another one of his fights, but he retired so that took care of that problem. Never been much impressed with Povetkin either, but I'll take pick him by decision, in a fight that I'd rather skip and read about later....

Good match-up, always wondered about these guys squaring off against one another or prime Chagaev (who, I think, beats them both)

Remember that back when Iggy and Chag were at their best, is around when Povetkin was given a very close scare by Eddie Chambers, who basically threw it away halfway in after seeming to have victory in the bag.

You might be right... Out of prime Chagaev gave Povetkin a tough fight.

Ibragimov vs. Whitaker is good fun. This was the performance that had Tyson going crazy for him. Shame, his last few fights were such stinkers, I blame Jeff Mayweather. He was shaping up to a beast prior, very aggressive, great hand speed, power, and combination punching.

You might need to clarify to avoid skewed poll results: are we talking the fully developed championship-form Sasha of the last few years against championship-form Iggy? ...or are we talking about when it could have realistically happened during the overlap in their careers, around 2007-2008 when Povetkin was a ranked contender and Ibragimov a titlist? (albeit in a different org than ranked Povetkin)

That could alter the answer significantly.

Guess i'll go with the former? Would make for a better fight I think.

I personally think Povetkin wins either way. I've already admitted that I haven't seen much of Ibrgimov, but what I did see was less than impressive. I think the Povetkin with 14 fights who beat Eddie chambers in February of 2008 could have beaten the Sultan who fought Wlad within that same time frame.

I think he was too wet behind the ears for someone as savvy as Iggy at that point.

Povetkin of now versus Ibragimov of then, however, I'm definitely going with the Russian Vityaz.

I suppose Iggy could have out slicked him between 2007-2008, but I wouldn't bet any real money on either of them.

I've only seen Povetkin against Huck and never watched Ibragimov. Povetkin, close NC5.

Neither one of these 2 guys are worth writing home about...
That being said the best of Sultan beats Povetkin on points in a boring long drawn out fight..

Sultan on his best day was excellent. Impressive movement (obvious amateur background), very hard to hit and very aggressive at times. He belongs to the same garniture of amateurs as Chagaev and it's shame that they've never fought in the pros (I would favor Chagaev though).

As for Povetkin, he is very hard to hold off and I would favor him against Ibragimov, probably not a stoppage, but I think that Povetkin could outbox him over 12 rounds. Like I said it's very hard to defend against Povetkin even for such a good defensive boxer but unless you are bigger, taller and stronger than him and got the holding techniques mastered, you will have a really hard time keeping Povetkin off.

    Says you?

I lean towards Iggy, southpaw boxer/puncher and a bit trickier than Povetkin who almost lost to Huck (close) I would not be inclined to wager on this one
