As I recall, Wlad’s power put Povetkin on noodle legs and he staggered and then went down (correct?), but Wlad’s power dropped Joshua like a sack of potatoes.

    Boom!!!

    Thud!!!!

I say Povetkin can withstand heavy power better

Povetkin was getting seriously rocked off Wlads jabs, never seen anything like that before.

Difficult to compare if we are using the Wlad fight as a comparison. In summary, both have elite HW level chins.

AJ was caught by something huge and hauled himself off the floor and won the fight.

Povetkin took a lot more cumulative volume and was fouled alot through constant holding, but stood up to it.

Very tough, both have good chins- and these are at the elite level.

I saw Povetkin getting wobbled off anything significant that landed, AJ took a hell of a bomb and went down, he also took that shot numerous times in that fight and stood up to it well, I'd say AJ.

I doubt Povetkin would have recovered from the right hand Wlad landed on AJ comsidering he was getting rocked by jabs. Lucky for him Wlad was more interested in hugging in that fight than trying to land a KO punch.

You may be confusing left hooks for jabs because many of Wladimir Klitschko's left hooks look like jabs, due to how short and how fundamentally / mechanically sound his left hooks are.

And Wladimir Klitschko quite possibly has the most powerful left hook in history. Just go ask Eddie Chambers (who has never been knocked out by anybody other than by Wladimir Klitschko) and Kubrat Pulev (who also was never knocked out by anybody else) just how powerful Wladimir Klitschko's left hook is.

Point is, Alexander Povetkin took a flush left hook from Wladimir Klitschko which dropped him but was able to get back up from immediately. And that same left hook would've knocked out many other heavyweights. There's no shame in getting dropped by a Wladimir Klitschko left hook. Especially if one can get back up immediately.

Alexander Povetkin actually got hit way more than Anthony Joshua did. Anthony Joshua has a much better defense because of his longer range which he can use to control distance better from the outside. Alexander Povetkin was walking into most of the punches thrown by Wladimir Klitschko but Anthony Joshua was backing up, which made it easier for him to absorb the punches.

Anthony Joshua was staggered multiple times too and was gassed from some of the punches that Wladimir Klitschko landed.

Wladimir Klitschko was hugging but he also landed more punches on Povetkin than he did on Joshua. So Povetkin actually took more damage! And Joshua has a much better defense than Povetkin due to having a longer range that enables him to control distance from the outside better. Alexander Povetkin was coming forward and took full impact of many of those punches landed by Wladimir Klitschko.

Wladimir Klitschko also said in an interview post fight that he landed flush right hands that made perfect impact on Alexander Povetkin's face but he couldn't stop Povetkin because Povetkin was fighting on instinct whilst being knocked out on his feet. So it's untrue that Povetkin couldn't take Wladimir Klitschko's right hands because he did.

And keep in mind that Wladimir Klitschko's left hook is actually more devastating than his straight right hand. Just look at how brutal his left hook knockouts are (Eddie Chambers and Kubrat Pulev as examples) and compare it to the brutality of his right hand knockouts.

Alexander Povetkin getting up from a flush left hook from Wladimir Klitschko that would've knocked many other heavyweights out is pretty impressive.

You may be confusing left hooks for jabs because many of Wladimir Klitschko's left hooks look like jabs, due to how short and how fundamentally / mechanically sound his left hooks are. The jabs didn't hurt Povetkin much. It's the left hooks that did hurt him the most.

Not saying Povetkin has a better chin / punch resistance than Anthony Joshua (I personally believe both are equal RIGHT NOW) but Povetkin has to have a pretty decent chin as someone who happens to be a short rangy pressure fighter who takes a lot of damage to land his own punches. Anthony Joshua has better control over distance and can attack from a long distance without being in harm's way very often.

    P4P, without a doubt Povetkin.

Overall, it's pretty close but I might still pick Povetkin.

Both have fine chins, not Mariusz Wach-like, but still pretty good.

If you can get up after Wlad's straight right (AJ) or left hook (Sasha) and end the fight on your feet, you haven't chin problems.

Takam's power hadn't impressed either Povetkin or AJ

    It's a hard call.

Smaller fighters takes more punishment generally speaking. Overall defense is more than a chin. And Joshua's overall talents/skillset is better than Povetkin's for the SHWD.

But for chin alone, I'v got Povetkin.
