joshua - he stood up to wlad no problem, even from a knockdown.

povetkin was getting thrown around like a little boy with wlad barely throwing a punch.

its obvious, no way you can have it any other way.

But does getting 'thrown around' without any punches being thrown have any relevance to punch resistance and chin though?

Or is it more about physical strength?

Povetkin took more shots from better Wlad and never went heavily down. Joshua also almost got KTFO by Dickon Whyte.

Yes, Wladimir Klitschko did foul in that fight and got away with it a lot. But Wladimir Klitschko only dropped Povetkin once legitimately, which was with that left hook in the 2nd round. The others involved Klitschko pushing and wrestling Povetkin down to the canvas.

Joshua likewise was also dropped once by Klitschko with a single straight right hand.

But Povetkin took a lot more punches from Klitschko whilst Joshua took less punches and damage due to better defense based on being taller which enabled him to control distance from the outside better.

And Povetkin is a lot smaller in size, compared to Joshua.

This. Everytime Povetkin got inside to do work Wlad literally wrestled him away.

yeh wlad really did lose that by DQ, for sure, you are right.

maybe pov and josh are on par. we will see when they fnish they're careers and can judge the full complement of their resume.

why are all the "mass makes your chin tougher" people not voting for joshua. There is a substnatial difference in mass between the two.

Alexander Povetkin's chin has to definitely be better pound for pound. That's because he is much smaller in size to Joshua in height, weight and reach. He is outweighed by around 30 pounds by both Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko but still managed to survive 12 rounds against Wladimir Klitschko whilst out of shape.

Anthony Joshua also managed to survive getting knocked out by Wladimir Klitschko but he had a significant weight and mass advantage. His extra mass allowed him to take Wladimir Klitshcko's punches better.

So overall in an absolute sense, I could see Anthony Joshua having a better chin / punch resistance because of his extra mass. But i still think they're about even.

I think Anthony Joshua may go on to become a greater heavyweight in the future because he is much bigger in size as a super heavyweight. He is physically stronger and probably more powerful. Alexander Povetkin is a very small heavyweight competing as a blown up cruiser weight in today's heavyweight division. But head to head, I think Povetkin from 2014 - 2016 would have a good chance at beating the Anthony Joshua we've seen so far.

Unified titlist JOshua has already far surpassed Povetkin.

Antony Joshua is already a greater HW than Alexander Povetkin.

How about this - Alexander Povetkin chin >> Vitali Klitschko chin?

"we'll seee when AJ is tested, not till then."

Yes, he is better now but what I meant was after both retire. If Alexander Povetkin goes on to beat Anthony Joshua and if Anthony Joshua goes on to lose to Deontay Wilder. Then would that still make Anthony Joshua greater than Alexander Povetkin? I'm not claiming those things are very likely but they are a POSSIBILITY which we can't ignore though. Can we? I'm not arguing about who is greater now but who would retire as the greater heavyweight.

And Anthony Joshua in my opinion will likely retire as the greater super heavyweight. Whilst Alexander Povetkin isn't a super heavyweight like Anthony Joshua but a 'mini' heavyweight.. Joshua is one of the most talented super heavyweights I've ever seen and I don't think any past heavyweight shorter than 6 foot 4 would've beaten him or any heavyweight weighing below 220 pounds. He is already one of the greatest super heavyweights ever in my opinion and would probably beat 90% of past heavyweights already.

Who do you think has the better chin pound for pound between Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin?

I know! But my point wasn't about who is the greater HW now but who would retire as the greater heavyweight. IF Alexander Povetkin beats Anthony Joshua and if Anthony Joshua loses to Deontay Wilder and / or Tyson Fury. Would that still make Anthony Joshua a greater HW than Alexander Povetkin? We'll see who retires as the greater heavyweight after both are retired but I do think Anthony Joshua will go down as one of, if not the greatest SUPER heavyweight of all time whilst Alexander Povetkin is not really a SUPER heavyweight like Anthony Joshua but more of a 'mini' heavyweight. I don't think both should even be in the same weight division to be honest.

As for comparing Povetkin's chin to Vitali Klitschko's. Vitali Klitschko obviously had a proven chin against the power punchers he faced in boxing. But he rarely got hit against most of his opponents. He rarely took much damage because he had a better defense than Alexander Povetkin by being able to control outside range better and therefore being able to better avoid taking as many punches.

Meanwhile, Alexander Povetkin has been hit WAY more in his boxing career than Vitali Klitschko has. And Povetkin is a come forward pressure fighter who takes much more punishment / punches from his opponents in order to attack and land his own punches. And he does so whilst moving forward. And getting hit whilst moving forward is most damaging.

So how can we compare the chins / punch resistance of Povetkin and Vitali Klitschko?

And say whatever else you want to say about Alexander Povetkin. But in around 200 amateur boxing + professional boxing + kickboxing bouts combined and whilst aged 38 now, he has never been stopped even once. I think that's pretty commendable! Don't you?

Anyone who isn't a hater with an agenda will accept that such a feat is pretty conclusive evidence that Alexander Povetkin has a very proven 'iron chin', at least pound for pound. And he is a pretty small heavyweight that has been fighting fully grown men much bigger than himself from a very young age.

So can you at least admit that Alexander Povetkin's chin / punch resistance is above average?

there a difference of 10kgs, which is approx 8% more weight off top my head.

the difference in chin is joshua been floored once, pov been floored 4 times. A four fold difference.

SO since you are asking, Joshua has the better chin SO FAR. But I keep telling you that you need to judge them at the same level.
