I still have to sit down and watch that fight in full.. But my gut feeling too was that Hammer is a little better, still in the same tier though... Throw Rudenko in that group as well.

Just a reminder that there is boxing on S4C now (Channel 134 on Sky) with English commentary.

Well, AJ, Wlad, Vitali, and Fury all undoubtedly have better victories than anything on Povetkin's resume. And I think you can also make the case that Stiverne is better than anyone Povetkin ever defeated. But even if you disagree on that last point, with all of the politics that goes into match-making these days, Wilder has seemed more willing to sign the big fights than Povetkin ever did in his heyday when he was running around with the minor WBA trinket.

What is Povetkin's crowning achievement? His UD over Chagaev?

Yeah, the Povetkin Hammer vs. the Povetkin Rudenko would be a pretty 50-50 affair.

And he STILL would be Wilder's best opponent to date, let that sink in....

And Wilder would STILL be his best opponent not named Wladimir. Let that sink in.

Yeah. Won't argue there. I forgot about Fury in all honesty. He's really destined to become this era's Bowe unless he stages a miraciolous turnaround with this comeback.

I'd rate Chagaev, Chambers(the prime version was a solid contender), Huck, Takam and Perez all over Stiverne in all honesty. Who like I said won the belt only due to Klitschko retiring and then beating Arreola X2 - he was never anything special as evidenced by his life and death struggle with an ancient Austin and earlier defeat to King. Could you possibly argue that Povetkin wouldn't have beaten Arreola X2 or Stiverne to win the title? No way obviously.... Since Wilder's won the belt Povetkin's run has been more or less equal to his despite not holding one himself. I don't see how a convincing argument can be made for rating Wilder or Parker over Povetkin based on what he's done in the last 10 years.

He doesn't really have a crowning achievement, Chagaev might well be it... But is that really any worse than Ruiz Jr. or Stiverne? That's just politics/circumstance.

Povetkin's wins this year alone match anything that Wilder has ever accomplished, Rudenko and Hammer are very comparable to Duhaupas and Stiverne.
His win over Larry Donald is better than anything Wilder has done.

I'd bet old Chris Byrd, or prime Eddie Chambers, or Ruslan Chagaev would box ears off of any version of Bermane Stiverne.

Stiverne isn't a top 2 Wilder win. Not on actual value anyway. The first win only means anything because it gave him the belt (but Stiverne only had the belt because he fought for it vacant against Arreola, who himself had no business being in a world title fight)

Wilder's best wins (in terms of quality of opponent) are Szpilka and Washington, not Stiverne and Duhaupas.

That said, your original statement stands. Rudenko and Hammer are as good as any two of Wilder's wins.
