You can't blame Pricey for taking the fight. Just think of the new van he'll be able to buy afterwards.

Every main headlining event always has a poster! Now if AJ vs. Parker has a poster I am not so sure considering its just a support fight on the card

You gotta give Hearn credit he’s making fights people want to see. Also when the Russian wins expect Hearn to use him as a roadblock from stopping the Wilder vs Joshua fight

    That's what I worry about...

By having Povetkin on the undercard against another British heavyweight prospect, you can't help but feel that this could be used as an excuse to match up Joshua and Povetkin next if they get by Parker and Price, respectively. While it would be an OK fight (Joshua vs. Povetkin), it's nowhere near the event that a Joshua/Wilder unification bout would be if both men want it. Povetkin, despite his current ranking, doesn't have the tools IMO to beat a guy like Joshua. With the sheer size differential between the two, it's probably going to look a lot like Klitschko vs. Povetkin, Klitschko vs. Chagaev, Klitschko vs. Ibragimov, yadda yadda. I know Joshua and Klitschko are different fighters, but AJ has the ring IQ and the size advantage needed to simply keep Sasha on the outside all night trying to find a way inside - not to mention the punching power to keep him honest. With Wilder, on the other hand, the two fighters are much more evenly matched in terms of height, reach, and power, while both sporting undefeated records to boot. I don't want to hear anyone tell me how Joshua vs. Povetkin is a better fight - no matter how much anyone hates Wilder on this board. :)

I've never been as big on Povetkin as the rest of this board seems to be - he doesn't really have a signature win on his resume (and I actually think he was at his best nearly ten years ago when he beat Chris Byrd and Ruslan Chagaev) and seems to be a solid all-round fighter without any one thing that gives him an advantage (height, massive punching power, tremendous speed, etc.).

AJ had a competitive fight with Takam and Povetkin blasted Takam out. This could be closer than people think

Anything is possible in boxing, I'll give you that...

I just worry that when two fighters are that unevenly matched from a height, weight, and reach perspective, it usually means that the taller fighter is always going to be able to use range, use his jab, and keep the fight at his own comfortable pace. Every time I've seen an excellent taller fighter (that knows how to use range to his advantage) take on a good-to-great shorter fighter - Klitschko vs. Ibragimov, Klitschko vs. Byrd, Klitschko vs. Peter, Klitschko vs. Povetkin, Klitschko vs. Chambers, Klitschko vs. Haye, Lewis vs. Tua, Lewis vs. Tyson, Lewis vs. Holyfield, Vitali vs. Peter, Vitali vs. Adamek, etc. - the taller fighter almost always wins. There are those rare exceptions (Chagaev vs. Valuev, Rahman vs. Lewis I, Brewster vs. Wlad I, etc.) where the smaller guy finds a way to win, but the pattern is too consistent for me to give Sasha a very big chance against a guy like Joshua.

The big question I suppose is whether or not I'm giving AJ too much credit this early in his career by comparing him with Lewis and the K Bros in those hypotheticals while comparing Sasha to guys like Chagaev, Haye, Tua, old Tyson, and others...but I just haven't seen enough from Sasha in his career to make me think he's capable of overcoming his own size limitations to beat a skilled, ex-Olympic, current heavyweight champion like Joshua. AJ isn't just big and strong - he has the pedigree one would expect of a potential outstanding heavyweight, even at this point in his young career.

This is great match making by Hearn. Everyone wants to see Price vs Povetkin, its arguably as big as the main event.
