Trainer: Povetkin Will Beat Deontay Wilder in Style

Trainer Alexander Zimin, who worked with Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 KOs), is very confident that of the Russian fighter's ability to unseat WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs).

Povetkin is the mandatory challenger to Wilder after last Friday's 91-second destruction of top Cuban contender Mike Perez (21-2-1, 13 KOs).

Wilder defends his title next month against challenger Eric Molina in Alabama. After that voluntary defense, the WBC will likely order the mandatory fight with Povetkin.

"Alexander will decisively beat Wilder and he will do it in style. [Povetkin] has extensive experience, he comes from a great school of boxing, he is smart and will make the best of the opportunity," Zimin told Sportbox.

Some experts were shocked with Povetkin's quick win over Perez. Zimin was not.

"It's no surprise that Alexander go the quick victory. He can easily fight with opponents from the US or Cuban schools by presenting a conventional boxing style. Perez was made for him because he comes forward. The biggest problem for Alexander are boxers who run around the ring. With all due respect to Perez - he is no competition for Povetkin," Zimin said.

Povetkin can be as smart as Einstein it won't matter, he doesn't have the foot speed to get inside on a taller fighter. Wilder is going to be an extremely difficult fight for any shorter fighter who doesn't have Mike Tyson like get inside speed. Simply because they will take to much punishment. If Wilder can keep Povetkin at the end of the jab he will win.

That's the way I see it as well. If he can't get on the inside consistently then he will be in for a long night. Wilder can move he's very athletic and he knows how to fight tall.

It's easy to write off Wilder instantly but if you take the fact he has the height advantage and length i think this is an interesting fight.

I don't think Wilder's chin is as bad as advertised but the problem for Wilder is Povetkin will be on him like a hawk and he might buckle under the pressure.

Wilder's never fought a guy who has brought anywhere close to Povetkin's pressure. Stiverne was a slow counter puncher who just look to catch him.

If Povetkin was a bit taller he would be a legendary heavyweight like Wlad, as it is he still beats anyone not called Klitschko without even having to shift into top gear. He's a wonderful boxer-puncher that any true fan of the sport should appreciate.

Disagree, generally big time pressure guys are tailor made for big punchers. Wilder just has to punish Povetkin on the way in and then move away if he gets to close, and I think he has the foot speed and hand speed to do that.

    Povetkin.

Wilder just doesn't have the skill level. He just doesn't seem like a professional fighter in terms of his skill level.

I have no doubts Povetkin would knock Wilder out in less than 6 rounds.

    Povetkin's timing nullifies Wilder's height.

I was high on Wilder after his last fight. But tonight he looked like ****. Maybe it was because he was in front of a home crowd. But damn the guy he was fighting was slow as hell. Maybe Wilder just had a bad night. But he is scared to death to get hit kinda like Wlad Klitschko. But Wilder has not learned to jab and grab Wlad uses to protect his weak chin and skin. I'm afraid Wilder is the new Michael Grant. Based on what I seen tonight Povetkin beats Wilder with ease. I'm not even sure Wilder can beat Fury. Yes Fury has been down but he never looked as hurt as Wilder looked tonight by a few soft punches. The bum that WIlder fought tonight could have stop Wilder tonight if he would have went for blood when he had him hurt. Wilder's chin seems very weak after what I seen tonight. But Wlad has a weak chin too. Wilder does not has Steward to bail him out like Wlad did. Wilder will be exposed when he steps it up.
