Exactly. Charles Martin won a belt in January. Offered a title fight to Joshua. They're fighting in April.

    How freaking difficult was that?

Povetkin couldn've had the fight with Wilder last fall but he wanted a tuneup . He could've had it in January, but that was too soon after his tuneup. Wilder wanted it in April ... April is now three weeks away.

    Now it's "late summer."

Povetkin wants no part of this. His strategy all along was to delay, delay, delay and then fight for a vacant belt.

The article says ONE DATE being mentioned is May 28. The last Saturday in May is "one" possible date.

That's your proof they want in in late April/early May? Don't hold your breath.

From the same guy who, in January, said Wilder will vacate and they'll fight for the vacant belt:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/Boxing/comments/433rsg/ryabinsky_wilder_will_probably_vacate_the_wbc_and/

There's no doubt in my mind Povetkin would've been ready to fight for a VACANT title in April. Hell, he's been training since January.

Now it's MAYBE the very end of May or the summer.

PUSH, PUSH, PUSH, DELAY, DELAY, DELAY ... Keep hoping for that vacant title fight.

There are a lot of people around here who like to pull things out of their asses the way it fits their agenda but dubblechin is probably the only one who somehow ends up believing in his own bulls****.

If you believe this fight is happening late May ... I feel sorry for you.

Here's what's more likely to happen.

They'll set a date in June or July. They'll bill it as a SUPER CARD. They'll load it up. Povetkin will get hurt training, or he'll decide he wants to fight someone else for another title ... saying he can make more fighting this other guy ... and Ryabinsky will keep the money from the tickets he sold and go on with the card as scheduled without Povetkin (which is why he loaded it up to begin with - because Povetkin has a history of walking after purse bids).

And the WBC will wash its hands of Povetkin and Wilder will defend his title against someone else this summer.

    Watch and see.

Wilder is a nobody and nobody has ever heard of him outside his birthplace. My guess is that even in the USA he is no household name at all.
Outside the USA he is totally unknown.
I also guess that he is hardly able to sell out an arena outside his birthplace and US tv doesnt have the intention to pay big bucks for him.
A totally unknown American underdog with a pathetic record flies over to Russia to fight the Russian olympic gold medalist and very well known Povetkin on his home turf.
I guess Wilder will get the biggest fight purse of his career in Russia, but he still looks for ways to get out of this fight as his heart sinks into his boots as soon as he thinks about Povetkin and Russia.Too big the show for such a small town fighter!:D

And when Povetkin backs out of the fight ... and then later signs to fight someone else for their belt ...

That will be the excuse. There it is. Odo came up with the template.

"Of couse Povetkin didn't want to fight Wilder. Wilder is a nobody. Povetkin versus (FILL IN NAME HERE) is a MUCH bigger fight.

"I, personally, would much rather see Povetkin fight (FILL IN THE NAME HERE) for the (NAME THE ORGANIZATION) title."

    You guys are so predictable.

Povetkin has never wanted to fight Wilder. He thought he could fight for a vacant belt if he delayed it long enough. His promoter practically admitted as much. Now he (Povetkin) is fighting one of the most dangerous punchers in the division in Wilder for short money and trying to take his title.

When Povetkin walks, after pushing the fight back nearly a year with tuneups and delays, you guys will all try to push the "Wilder isn't a big name anyway" storyline.

And so it begins ... :hi::-(

Why should Povetkin think about ways to avoid Wilder????
His compatriot Romanov wiped the floor with him before he stopped him.
Romanov cant hold a candle to Povetkin.Besides Povetkin has fought quite a lot of fighters both at the amateurs and pros who were or are better than Wilder.

What truly matters is Wilder vs Povetkin will be an action packed fight with hard shots landed. I don't give a fly sh#t about the business aspect of this fight as long both fighers are willing to trade punches.:bbb
