Wait people are giving Smith a chance? Dude was ****ing terrible, Povetkin would whip the floor with him roids or no roids.

Just respect for Povetkin, in my case. Others may be nostalgic.
I don't agree that Povetkin is an average fighter (what does an average fighter mean?), but a former world champion, and a decade-long top 10 HW; longevity.
His legacy is to be envied by: Ruslan Chagaev, Chris Bird, Hashim Rahman, Marco Huck, Hughie Fury, Dilian White (Povetkin swan song; worthy of a career) ...
As for the question - Povetkin wins by the judge's decision, or ours might surprise with a brilliant uppercut, as in the case of White.

What evidence do you have that it was a "free for all"? I mean Holyfield, yes, and I would buy that in the mid to late 90s things really rocketed. But in the 80s? Bonehugger, Holmes, Tucker, et al?

Yeah but Chagaev was past his best, Byrd was way past his expiration date and Rahman was shot to bits when they fought.

Honestly Povetkin would win a decision over Bonecrusher, maybe even stop him late. Bonecrusher was a decent fighter, nothing special.

Caught him with a great shot no doubt. That being said, I don’t rate Whyte anywhere near as high as the other three mentioned when they were in their primes. If Povetkin met those three at their absolute best, his record would have a few more L’s in my book.

Chagaev wasn't past his best (I think he was 32), Byrd was 36, Rahman was 37. Acting like they were decrypid old men is unfair when they were all in early to mid 30s

36-3-1 Olympic, amateur world champion who beat everybody he fought in amateur, champion who was in the top 5 for 14 years, or 44-17 KOd in his debut, 19-8-1 before he got his 20th win with prime losses to such names as "Adilson Rodrigues" and "James Broad". Hmmm

Povetkin stoppage or very wide decision

There hardly was any testing taking place, and we know a lot of these guys doped after the fact. Tyson even admitted he got away with using a fake ***** to pee in a cup.
And just look at sports back then in general. Hardly any of the big names from the time were clean, and almost zero of the actual stars.

Povetkin would have been champion, probably for a while, had Wlad not been around. He is a very well rounded fighter. Smith was ok, I guess, but the only advantage he has here is size. I don't think it would be enough.

Can you do everything in your mid-late 30s as well as you did in your 20s? If so, more power to you. Factor in a long and tough career of getting repeatedly punched in the head by 200+ pound guys and it would be a miracle if anybody was as good as they were in their prime. Also, you can’t just look at the age and say “well that’s not an old man, they are only in their 30s.” Everybody ages differently, especially in such a brutal sport.
