Alexander Povetkin vs. Ruslan Chagaev & Robert Helenius vs. Sergei Liakhovich RBR

You need to rewatch the bout.

The first round was close.

The next six were easy to score.

The big dude landed a lot, but it was nearly all on Sergei's gloves.

All credit to him for catching the Russian in the eighth and delivering a devastating finish in the ninth.


But he looked amateurish up till then.

Oprah Winfrey has better footwork.


IF he had proper training and developed some boxing skills, with his power, he could pose a threat to the K brothers.


But he still has a lot of work to do on the basics.

 

come on, IB. Haye is way way to quick for Helenius. As devasting as Helenius power is, he can not put his chin out like that against a fighter with almost equal punshing power. Once he gasses, I would not rule out a late TKO for Haye otherwise a pot-shot UD.

 

Helenius was winning rounds easily, believe it or not he has improved in this respect. Liakhovich did not win more than 2 rounds, no chance.

 

Liahkovich was HURT the first time he felt Robbe's L hook. He came in throwing combos all night just to try to keep Robbe from throwing that hookjab that hurt him early.
The workrate for Liahkovich was so high because it was his only defense for Robbe's jab,hook and cross. When your'e throwing punches that aren't bothering your opponent it frustrates and tires you, and when your'e doing so just to keep the long man off of you, your'e gonna tire and be even more discouraged.

Add a broken nose to that, and the fact that Robbe was finally starting to sit on his shots, and that's why it appeared that Sergie was so gassed. He was in great shape, don't know the punch #s, but Sergie threw more than I've ever seen him throw, and he had only 8 1/4 rounds in whcih to do it.

Robbe has some weaknesses....flatfooted, plodding, methodical. But those are part of his strength as well. He is determined to hunt his guiy down, and land that murderous L hook or hookjab setting up either an UC or a Straight/Cross. Or in multiple combo sequence as witnessed tonight.

I tell you what.....Sergei met the wrong fighter tonight. Had he fought that fight vs Potvetkin, he would be holding a strap tonite. But it was Helenius that he met, and he'll be holding his doctor bills in the morning.

Potvetkin looked like **** tonite. I had the fight 116/115 for him, and basically because Chagaev took the 9th, 10th, and 11th off. Matter of fact, I had Chag up by 2 rds before Teddy gave that dead daddy speech. I gave Chag the last round because he threw and landed more and more effective punches.

I thought Chag was gonna KO |Potvetkin between the 5th and the 8th. He was the agrssor from the start, and when he started to find a home for that L hand in the 6th, i thought Pot was gonna go. He did show a chin though, and Teddy really picked him up after the 8th round.

Does anybody have a link to the official score cards? Honestly I had Helenius well up on points before the KO. Helenius today was far better than he was against Peter.

 

Robert was winning on the official cards by way of a split decision, with scores of 77-74 and 76-75 for Helenius and 76-75 on the third for Liakhovich.

Liakhovich was making Helenius (whom I like) look like a toughman contestant. I was stunned. Best I can ever recall seeing Liakhovich fight.
