If Chris Arreola will be allowed to basically wait for Vitali to retire and fight for his vacant belt, then we really can't blame Povetkin for biding his time and setting his sights on that belt as well.

I guess it's better than the murderer's row of Taurus Sykes, Jason Estrada, Leo Nolan, Javier Mora, Teke Urah and Nicolai Firtha (plus that unsanctioned crap fight against a senior citizen) that he faced while sitting on his mandatory, but let's face it:

    - Chagaev was mandated by the WBA for the vacant title. No extra props for facing someone he needed to face.

    - Huck was picked because he's a big name in Germany and because everyone who's ever watched him knows he's too small for heavyweight with his bullying style. Despite still coming in close to the cruiser limit, he gave Sasha all he could handle.

    - Boswell was 42 years old and his career best win probably came against an even older Oliver McCall who probably should have lost his last three fights before that (he did lose to Ibragimov, he got a nice little robbery against Oquendo and while I didn't see the Whitaker fight, the people I know who did said Whitaker should have won it).

It's pathetic that as a titlist he's facing worse opposition than he did as a prospect.

how about ducking Wlad at least twice in the past?

I know Povetkin has a decent resume (Byrd, Chambers, Chagaev, Huck) but fighting guys like 39 year old Rahman and 41 year old Boswell, and if this article is true, a 41 year old nobody, fights like this aren't going to give him any credibility

LOL at all these butthurt Povetkin haters pretending they don't know who Jovo Pudar is.

Take my word for it- this one is going to be big. I had a feeling Rahman was just a tune up for a bigger fight later on, and now we know what they had planning. I expect this is what Atlas was working towards all along. I give Povetkin credit- he must have balls like watermelons

41 year old Serb who knocked over a load of cans fighting in the US in the late 90s/early 00s, before losing wide UDs to Taurus Sykes and Sam Peter in 2004.

After this, he had a 6 year layoff before returning as a cruiser, then moving up to HW and beating a load of South Americans with padded records in his home country.

In WBA-land, this makes you a worthy world title challenger.

I saw his fight with Nascimento and he showed better movement and timing than Charr did against him, but he lacks aggression and is a safety first fighter who would probably go the distance with Povetkin and lose a wide UD.

He's in better shape than Rahman anyway and would likely put up a better show against Povetkin than that fat shot old man.

You're right. To be honest, Povetkin's best wins are Chambers and Chagaev (both were close fights).

Byrd was totally shot after brutal beating he took from Wlad 20 months earlier (In fact, Byrd was already shot before 2nd fight vs. Wlad).

Huck beat Povetkin, IMO. Though it was a close fight, it was Povetkin who was hurt by a cruiserweight, while Huck was never in trouble. 7th rd was not easy for Povetkin, he was clearly hurt but survived till the end of the round.

Other than that, his resume is full of shot 40+ veterans (Boswell, Donald) or tomato cans.

    This is a joke, right?

Pudar is trash, just came back a year ago from a 5 year lay-off. Stop talking, please.

The inability if some people on here to detect trolling is hilarious.
He's right about one thing though: Pudar is better than Rahman.
