Povetkin is far and away the best HW other than Wladimir and he was the best HW other than Wladimir and Vitali for a while before Vitali retired.

Honestly not top 10 or 20 or close to that, but at a certain point the discussion is warranted of where Povetkin lies in the history of the HW division. He is notable to it.

Povetkin would destroy Stiverne, Wilder, Fury and whoever else is there outside of Wlad.

I always struggle to erase the memory of that terrible performance he had against Huck.

    Notable how?

He is talented, although I think he tends to be a little overrated around here myself. What noteworthy accomplishments make him anything more than a side note at this point, when you historically view this era?

Your right Povetkin is incredibly unlucky not to be a title holder, second best guy in the division quite comfortably.
Would like to see him vs Pulev though

I think that Povetkin is a bit overrated by some and somewhat underrated by others.

He has skills, good power, handspeed, and workrate.

However, he isn't as physically gifted as most HWs (I mean, too much body fat despite intence training and too small muscles until recent year). Very short arms, nowhere near 75 inches as officially listed.

Takam has 76 reach, and his arms are much, much longer and shoulders are bigger too. Real Povetkin reach is 71-72 at best.

That's why he didn't develop good jab. His footwork isn't brilliant, too.

Very solid fighter with skills, stamina and iron heart, but not great by any means.

    Are you serious?

I'd love to hear which Heavyweights of this era (or era-and-a-half) have accumulated a better top tier of victories than Povetkin has. His 5 or so best wins aren't far behind and you wouldn't have to be high off your ass to say better than Vitali's and Vitali is clearly second best of the post-Lennox era to his brother.

You say a side not at this point to the era. I say the 3rd best Heavyweight of the era and somewhat clearly. How is that not historically relevant??

EDIT: OK, I get what you're saying. Being 3rd best fighter in this weak of an era isn't important to the scheme of the division's history. And I do get that. But for the last decade, he's been the 3rd best HW. I think that's relevant even if one argues that is the weakest time frame in HW history.

Povetkin would get KOd by both of them but it's a style thing, he should rank higher than Wilder.

I agree, Povetkin too strong and polished for either. IMO, Povetkin didn't even lose to Wlad. That fight was disgraceful. A better ref would have DQ'd Wlad, even though it was for the world championship.
