    Alexander Povetkin's historical significance?

IMO, Povetkin is underrated and is better than several lineal champions, but that's not the point of the thread.

Povetkin could be the last very good 6'2" 220-225 pounds 75" reach talent... as there are none with those triangle numbers on the rise.

If Povetkin can beat Joshua boxing pundits will say size doesn't matter! For the record, I think 220 is big enough, but If Povetkin doesn't become the #1 guy, fair or not the narrative might shift to he was too small.

He's 16-1 vs top 50 talent. This is as good as anyone. Highly avoided as a professional. He'll get a chance vs Joshua later if he beats Parker.

He's one of the best of his era.

He doesn't have any All-Time great wins or anything close to that, but I don't hold it against him that he lost that WRESTLING match to Wladimir Klitschko either.

As usual you are missing my point. Povetkin is 16-1 vs. fighters who were rated in the top 50 in his time. He has never been stopped either. See the below link, I think the rating system used below is good.

If he can beat a super heavyweight with skills, like Joshua, the narrative shifts on size.

I would rate him as one of the best HW "near men" history.

No greater than Alexander Zolkin.. I reckon Zolkin was probably a better fighter h2h due to his size and stance.

I've been saying for a long time, Povetkin, outside of the Klitsckos was the best heavyweight out there.

He has a respectable resume. A very good fighter in his era.

Maybe a bit overlooked, how come hes been inactive lately?

I would have loved to seen him fight Hayes and Adamek a few years back.

I like povetkin, he kinda freaks me out cause he looks exactly like this guy I know though. But I agree I like seeing shorter fighters beat larger opponents, he's a very good pressure fighter, but unless you have reach on wladamir klitlscko he knows what to do with ya

Can you guys recommend some of his best performances? What fights do you think really display Povetkin's talents and abilities?

Best judged vs the better fighters he fought, or vs fighters the other champions fought:

Takam - Looked better than Joshua did vs. the same guy...when Takam was in his prime

Duhaupas - Taken out with a left hook. Povetkin looked better than Wilder by mile vs. the same guy

Chagaev - Povetkin out points a very good heavyweight.

As for his talents, he's got a grade A chin, old-school effort and intangibles, fast hands ( in his prime ) KO power in the left hook, a good body shot, uppercut, and right hook, and strong will, and decent defense and footwork.
