Alexander Povetkin's historical significance? Was he big enough?

I think he's too small in that it's going to take a Mike Tysonesque fighter his size or smaller to overcome the size advantage of the SHWs. I.e. someone with truly incredible power, speed and agility. I think we might see another dominant 6'3 or shorter hw champ, but will have to have incredible power to make up for the inherent problems being outsized gives, and Sasha isn't quite at that level.

Povektin is a guy with a resume that should have landed him more than one world title shot. It's also telling that his best wins are after he lost against an ATG. I don't think current Povektin is a monster but prime Povektin could beat any current fighter. He should have got a second chance to prove it before he got to old.

Povetkin & even Wilder should have been Cruisers, they went to Heavyweight because they found out they get bigger credit beating up Bigger guys, if Wilder or Povetkin get beaten up by the massive 260lbs version of Joshua, they got what they asked for

A 220lbs Wilder or Povetkin (average Cruiser fight weight) will get much less credit at Cruiser, even when they move up to Heavyweight they will have a less intimidating presence, Heavyweights will be more keen to land more punches in hopes in stopping the smaller man, debuting as Heavyweights removes that psychological edge.

Usyk is as big as WIlder or Povetkin (in weight), but if he moves to Heavyweight, every fight he has he will be a walking target for bigger heavyweights who believe they can stop him based on size alone

    Supremely underrated and overlooked fighter.

I'd have fancied him beating prime Haye, if David wasn't just interested in cash out fights at HW.

Even this post Wlad era version would wipe the floor with some of today's top heavies.

He's more or less Russia's answer to Mike Tyson

Povetkin won the gold medal in the Olympics, super heavyweight division! HE is used to fighting much bigger fighters, Povetkin can fight, has power, why do you think Wilder had him framed?! VADA cleared Povetkin, but hte WBC had to keep Povetkin away from Wilder or Wilder would have gotten knocked out! Povetkin is not Dustin Nichols, or Sconiers...............in the Huck fight, he started out well, but got tired because he did not train for that fight, since then he has looked good.........................always...............he is only 6 feet 2 inches tall...............

I think you are over-estimating Deontay Wilder espionage capabilities, Deontay Wilder is the WBC Heavyweight World Boxing Champion not some espionage agent...Even Jason Bourne will have a hard time getting Lilya to slip in Melo into Povetkin energy drink

World titles aren't what they used to be. Lineal titles aren't even what they used to be. Everything boils down to opportunity and management these days. Even then on a historical level, we saw countless fighters become more accomplished than the so called Champions. Ezzard Charles and Lloyd Marshall during Gus Lesnevich's title reign come to mind for most glaring example.

If a fighter gets a title these days Im more impressed with how they conduct themselves, do they take on the challenges, and give the title value or do they take the path of the absolute minimalist restistance?

Now Joshua is someone I would make a case for being more accomplished than Povetkin, in fact if he beats Parker it is pretty undisputable in my eyes.

He could be a "big" boxing star if he went to the United States after the Olympic Games, but he spent time first in Germany than in Russia, and also got in touch with Hryunov (Russian Don King) although Khrunov managed to make the largest fee to Povetkin in the fight with Klitschko (Povetkin earned seven million dollars)

Wilder has a world title that he's defended SIX times.

Besides Roids, exactly WHAT has PEDvedkin done in his career?

Bowe has the two Ws over Evander Holyfield. How many guys can say that?

OTOH, Wlad got KO'ed by Purrity, Sanders and Brewster - all while managing to not beat anyone of any consequence for the whole of his pathetic career.

Is Wlad on Bowe's level? That's a ridiculous question...
