A lot of people fancied Devon Alexander over Amir Khan if they were to get in the ring. Does Devon's latest performance change this at all?
I never thought devon could beat amir khan. He had a bad night but he eeked out the win, he fought someone with a better defense than him. I wouldn't sell devon out just yet, I do think he could beat bradley though.
Haha no one is going to reply to this thread lord forbid khan gets credit from the yanks. I always thought khan would beat both him and bradley
I still think Alexander would beat Khan and I don't read too much into how both did against Kotelnik either but Khan definitely went in with the better game plan even if it did make for a drab fight.
I'll admit, I thought there was more polish there in Alexander's game and I favored him to beat Khan. I thought he'd have tightened his defense up and controlled a skilled, yet predictable, Kotelnik for a clear win. On Amir's end, the more he's spending time with Roach, the more he's been improving, and I saw some things tonight that I think the current Khan would really exploit. As in late TKO kind of exploit. I'd have to favor Khan based on what I've seen out of each man's last few fights and the trajectory of improvement.
It's all about styles, and I think Kotelnik's was no good for Devon's. I still believe he'll beat Khan at this moment in time.
Kotelnik probably would outpoint Urango but Alexander gets props for stopping him, which neither Berto or Hatton could do. Stylistically Kotelnik and Khan are nothing alike, Kotelnik is hard to connect with due to his shell like defense and when you do get through he's got a solid chin, he's also a good counter puncher which is something Alexander struggled with but he wouldn't have to worry about any of the above against Khan. Khan is quick and has a good jab but I think Alexander would eventually hunt him down and stop him.
That's the worrying thing for Alexander- Kotelnik's style isn't exactly unique, and he was having tons of problems defensively with Kotelnik' proficient yet relatively basic textbook style when Kotelnik was asserting his offense. Khan could easily replicate the same strategy but with more speed, power, and range. Not to mention the edge in trainers.
Judah is back at 140 and there is nobody he can't beat. Bradley, Khan and Alexander all have flaws. He has the best defese, fastest hands, most power and most experience of anybody at 140. Best division in boxing by the way!
