jim jim and I were discussing this on another thread, and I just wanted to continue our discussion... Of course, feel free to chime in... I feel that Alexander is way too one dimensional to beat Thurman. Thurman showed more dimension in his fight with Chaves than Alexander has shown his entire career. Jab Jab Straight Turn or Jab Jab Straight Hold is all Alexander ever does, and it's not hard to figure out. He can get away with it against lower tier boxers, or b-level insider fighters, but against a guy like Thurman, it wouldn't work. And above all, Thurman has that equalizing power that Alexander doesn't have. On the off chance Alexander is making the fight difficult for Thurman, Keith has the option to knock him out. If things are going south for Alexander, he loses... Period...
Styles make fights. Rios cut off the ring, and is an excellent inside fighter. He got on the inside with Chaves, and beat him up. When he wasn't beating Chaves up on the inside, he was getting outboxed him. Let's not forget, with the point deductions Chaves was winning the fight up until the DQ. That's not Thurman's style, he's a boxer puncher. He doesn't come in chest to chest like Rios. When he pressures the opponent, he does most of his work from mid-rage. That didn't work against Chaves, so he was able to counter him from mid-range. When he moved back, he was able to counter Chaves. "And like I said before", Alexander can't hurt Keith, Chaves is a knockout puncher. Keith had something to worry about with Chavez but wouldn't against Alexander.
yeap your edging me closer in thurmans favour , i could see thurman smashing him up a bit but I think both will like the range in this fight , i think it'l suit both. And even though alexander has no power really i can see him catching thurman with some big shots uppercuts on the way in, devon is a little slicker on his feet. The more i think of it though i would make thurman the favourite but this would be a big step up for him he hasnt fought anyone who moves as well and i think alexander can make it difficult and can win but thurman would probably overwhelm him. an i dont think rios is that great at cutting off the ring chavezfor me doesnt have the best movement but his power probably cancels this out in comparison to alexander.
I'm talking about IF he needed it, he can try it. He was knocked down by Matthysse and Maidana. Thurman delivers his comparable power with much greater speed and technique, and can deliver it as a counter punch.
A true test for Thurman . No one ever has an easy time with Alexander , Hes a true solid fighter . that I respect . TOSS UP fight
I do... But I haven't seen the fight in a while, I could be wrong Checking... ... ... ... Maybe not... Someone else knocked him down though, I thought Although the point still stands I suppose
san diego thurman wins he's fast and athletic he can box too alexander gets tko'd.bradley made alexander quit and koeltic the russian dude outboxed him he cant handle guys who can box better then him.
