No, I get that, and Bradley is turning me into a big fan of his with the way he is conducting himself in and out of the ring. It's just this stupid notion that darryl keeps bringing into certain debates that almost all black fighters need to work twice as hard to gain recognition. That black fighters need to win every second of every round for it to be classed as a good/great performance...and that's just not true. He also states that if a black fighter loses/loses a close decision, etc...everyone jumps on them calling them a bum/hypejob. And to an extent, that is true...but it does not only happen to black fighters. He has been given plenty of examples throughout this thread of multiple races being classed as a bum/hypejob, etc...and completely ignored them. Then goes on to tell me that my argument is stupid for asking this question, "why are said people supporting Bradley in this bout if it was about race?"...he brings up race, and how black fighters are held in higher regard, etc...but can't reply to this because he knows it has nothing to do with race.
I'll just give you one of the THOUSANDS of examples. I recall when Juan Manuel Lopez went 12 Rounds while looking absolutely AWFUL versus Rogers Mtagwa. And after the fight, there were tons of threads calling his performance "A Test of Strength and Courage fighting like a Warrior in the Championship Rounds" versus a ****ING journeyman with a 26-12 Record. But when Berto goes 12 Tough Rounds with Collazo, and Alexander goes the distance with Ketolnik (TWO FORMER BELT HOLDERS WITH TALENT AND SKILL)....The words "A Test of Strength and Courage fighting like a Warrior in the Championship Rounds" wasn't even close to describing their performance. Remember thse words: HYPE-JOB/BUM/OVERRATED. And my question was only to ask...why does it seems as if "certain" fighters held to this higher standard of needed to win in spectacular fashion and look sensational in every round of every fight. Look....I have been working in Sports Broadcasting for the past 16 years as a Writer, Reporter and Correspondent. This is something that has been going on FOR YEARS. This isn't something that I just threw into the debate just to stir the pot. And I have always ask this quesion about Level of Standards being different. And as to why I never responded to your question and calling it stupid...Well, I will indulge you by not only answering you question, but also to show the stupidity of the question itself. You asked: "why are said people supporting Bradley in this bout if it was about race?" You have jumped head first into the pool of ASSUMPTIONS AND PERCEPTIONS...SPLASH!!!! You assumed that I am saying that NO-ONE wants to nor will cheer or root for a Black Fighter:-(....THAT'S COMPLETE BULL****!!! My platform was and always has been about the "level of standards" that exist about fighters performances and resumes...THAT'S IT!!! Who people/posters/fans want to cheer for has NEVER been a part of my argument. "To act as if Race is the ONLY Factor in this debate is just completely Naive...but to act as if Race plays NO FACTOR in this debate, is even more NAIVE"
Regarding the Lopez-Mtagwa bout, I was posting on Boxingnews24, and I changed to this site just after that bout. I don't remember any threads saying this, "A Test of Strength and Courage fighting like a Warrior in the Championship Rounds"...what I do remember though is the multiple threads of how Lopez struggled with a guy who Gamboa would go on to stop in 2. Collazo is a tough night for anyone, as is Kotelnik. It's a minority who continually say the same things about these said bouts, because they don't like Berto or Alexander, for whatever reason. I didn't assume what you were saying is that no-one wants to cheer for black fighters. In fact the Alexander-Bradley bout is the perfect example of people rooting for who they want to root for. They may believe Alexander was hyped up to be more than what he is, but Khan has been through the exact same thing (and has come back stronger...Alexander still has time)...and Hatton still gets the 'a bum/overrated' treatment, and he has been retired for a while now. These are/were all talented boxers who have gone through the exact same thing on this forum...which shows that 99.9% of the time, it has nothing to do with race. And your last sentence is spot-on, I've said this (not word for word) a number of times when people try to blame the hate Khan gets is all about race. :good
I agree That Would make mid-year 2011 good for boxing if haye-klit happens I can see khan fighting Marquez, then possibly 2 tune-up fights, a rising star, and depending on the floyd-Pac situation Floyd in late 2012 or early 2013. In my, and most other people's, opinions khan is no-where near ready for Floyd and by 2013 age could possibly become more of a factor?
I always hate this tactic regardless of who uses it, because it makes them sound like some kind of illiterate cave-hermit.
