Alexandr Zhuravskiy vs. Stephen Danyo & Yernar Yeshenov vs. Michael McGurk RBR

Yeshenov working the body well, and setting everything up with a nice double southpaw jab with follow-through.

 

Round 1

Yeshenov pushing McGurk back with double jabs and pounding the body with submarine lefts, ducking under the counter jab. McGurk keeping pace with Yeshenov but not matching his output and more timid with his shots.

I think we're seeing a little revenge for glorious nation of Kazakhstan here, unless McGurk pulls a stylistic plan B rabbit from a hat or gets a gift himself...

 

Round 2

Yeshenov is parrying McGurk's left jab with his right, punching straight into his knuckle padding as though he were hoping to break the bones in McGurk's hand. McGurk is hanging in the pocket with Yeshenov, a mistake, his left hook and right cross flash combo easily overpowered by Yeshenov's tripled up elevator-on-the-fritz right hook going low-to-high-to-low. Yeshenov pushing forward bell to bell. McGurk battling him off valiantly, staying disciplined and working behind a solid left jab. Yeshenov just stronger and busier.

Round 3

Yeshenov is reaching up top and clapping a hard left on McGurk's ear from a full pace away. Yeshenov is rangy, and can generate some mighty leverage from afar while remaining anchored in one spot. Impressive. McGurk for his part is boxing really well, just in with a better physical specimen with a more brutal disposition. McGurk shows a bit of slickness jerking himself away from Yeshenov's lead lefts, making him miss head & body shots, but when he takes his turn his counters are countered as Yeshenov times him with more torpedo lefts.

This is really nice, almost restoring my faith in boxing..

 

Round 4

Yeshenov is getting harpooned with plunging lead rights on the belly from outside. McGurk has the habit of grunting when he executes a punch, slightly telegraphing himself. Yeshenov is ripping hooks into the sides of McGurk's head inside. The announcer suddenly breaks from the Russian monotone and says "Mexican style" . McGurk dribbles a combo off Yeshenov's face at point blank. Yeshenov responds and hurts McGurk with a left up top. McGurk tries holding but is thudded off with a couple of heavy right jabs. Big right hook by Yeshenov just missing. No backward steps from either, McGurk fighting to reclaim the middle of the ring.

I'd rather watch these guys fight a quadrillogy than ever watch certain belt holders in their division again. (cough, Andrade)

 

Round 5

Yeshenov is pressing in behind a high right jab, keeping the zip on it but lowering his total output a tad. McGurk is standing his ground in spurts, batting at Yeshenov's skull with double hooks and then conceding to Yeshenov's pressure. McGurk able to swivel Yeshenov's head a few times with hooks. McGurk is cut by the right eye, however. Pretty badly.
