The fight is still a few hours away.

We have the 2005 world amateur champion taking on an unknown clubfighter from Argentina, on his home turf. This is for something called the WBO interim title.

Never mind asking who wins, does anyone see the Argie winning a round or two?

I see this going down as a complete domination by Alexeev, followed by a mid-rounds stoppage (possibly a clean KO).

    Discuss. :good

I visited boxrec as well, which is more than nothing, but which fights have u seen of Ramirez to call him a cab driver? It's a bit disrespectful if u ask me, and many looked pretty stupid after the 'cab driver' knocked Amir Khan out.

Of course what I know is that Alexeev is a very special fighter who should be favored based upon his very convincing wins and amateur results. But all I know about Ramirez is that he has a weak pro record and was a 2-time national SHW champ in the amateurs, that's not enough to call him a threat or a cab driver or anything. I can only judge Alexeev, who is already an elite fighter, so based on his precise punches and superb power, I'm picking him to win by TKO.

Well for starters, he has fought all his fights in Argentina, none against top 100 opposition, and he actually lost one of them to a 7-3-1 journeyman. This means he is going to get brutalized when he steps up, which is now. :good

Agreed on both fronts. Hopefully he gets more of a challenge when he fights for the WBO title (whenever that may be).

most argies are durable when they go overseas.

i will be watching tonight, looking forward to seeing alexeev.

some argies turn out to be good, garay , is a very good fighter who still has no name , despite being a lhw belt holder.

Possibly, but we know little about the circumstances of his loss etc. Carlos Baldomir was called a cab driver and look what happened.

Hopefully, being an Alexeev fan, the Russian will make him look like a cab driver, but we'll have to wait and see what can Ramirez offer, and then judge him, at least IMO.

Personally, I tend to judge fighters on what they have proven leading up to the night of the fight.

In the case of Ramirez, that would be nothing.

Of course, if an unproven fighter turns things around down the road, the win/performance against him would be looked at with a different light. But we as boxing fans should not wait 15 years until a boxer retires to heap praise or condemnation on fights that happened more than a decade earlier, IMO.

Gotta tell it like it is! :good

Still, I've heard those cabdrivers do pull off the occasional upset or two. :tong

This fight has some very bright moments. Nice exchanges. Alexeev has troubles with Ramirez tight defense.
