I was watching Arguellos fight with Claude Noel today and the commentater Freddie Pacheco made reference to Arguello displaying some 'unhinged' behaviour and said some nasty comments about Eddie Futch that Ferdie did not agree with.

Obviously at that time Arguello was going through a rough patch as he showed increasingly 'unhinged' behaviour and was a drug addict and couldnt stop fighting perhaps that is the reason for it.

But what exactly was said between Arguello and Futch as Arguello seemed to really respect Futch in his later years and the only negative thing ican find him saying about Futch was he wasnt a good life coach when he should have been citing Riddick Bowe as an example.

Well anyway, what happened between them?

Alex, having a rough time swallowing his first defeat to Pryor, accused Futch of being responsible for Arguello over training. It's my understanding that he later apologized to Eddie for this. (Just about the whole boxing community rose up against Alex for this gaffe, and Flash Gordon ripped him a new a-hole in his newsletter for suggesting this after Miami.)

Kind of obscene, thinking of Saint Eddie and Satan Panama Lewis working opposite corners, isn't it?

thanks, yeh Alexis definitly ent downhill after the first pryor fight. It was probably a heat of the moment thing, im sure he didnt mean it. As you say you think he later apoligized for it which i would think would be the case. Funny there was a legitimate reason to blame defeat on or at least use as a reason for him losing in the black bottle, yet he blames perhaps the best trainer in the world instead. :huh

yes very obscene Panama Lewis shouldnt even be inthe same sentance as Futch, Lewis is a total *****.

Just to add, i am pretty sure Arguello went back on his firing Futch and actually asked him back in his corner. Futch kindly declined, if memory serves me correct.

Sadly, Eddie couldn't help Alexis against Aaron, but there has got to be some concrete way to find out if there's any truth to the whole "peppermint schnapps" thing.

from what it sounds like from resto and a few others it's more likely crushed asthma tablets.

also leads to why you would need to mix them with water. which is the phrase he used...more likely.

but ya, pryor doesnt know. lewis is staying schtum about it aswell

Arguello did't become a cokehead and druggy until after he retired after Pryor 2. He was not one in 1983 while still a fighter.
