Both have a shot at being the greatest sfw ever. Does the professor have a chance against the hard punching Arguello?

Two all time greats but a matchup, stylewise, that favors Alexis who would eventually stop him in a classic ..

Nelson was a great fighter but he is definitely below Chavez,Arguello, Mayweather at JL.

He was great but not unbeateable, like the other 3 were in their prime.

Nelsons best weight was feather but his resume was longer at JL.

I think Arguello would stop Nelson late. I just think he has all the stylistic advantages and Nelson would be walking into the fire all night. I do rate Arguello higher, but still, I just think Arguello is all wrong for Nelson. Nelson, as great as he was, squared himself up too much and the body work would be easy pickings for Arguello.

Arguello for me, in an explosive fight, Nelson takes it to anyone. Arguello should hit the combos in mid ring, going to the ropes with Nelson, regardless whose back is on them, is not a great option.

Nelson was a style that arguello would enjoy facing, he wouldn't need to go looking for him in the fight, nelson will look to come forward at all oppurtunities and arguello liked someone doing that, i see him getting his lovely combinations off and timing nelson better the more the fight went on, i could see him stopping him late but will go UD for arguello

Elizondo charged Alex to the ropes, and got his jaw fractured as a result. This really isn't a good match for Nelson, who isn't the freak Pryor was, or the gifted, quick and super mobile defensive and iron chinned strategist Vilomar Fernandez was. (Even then, Vilomar was only able to beat Alexis over ten, and just by majority decision. It also bears mentioning that even in defeat, Arguello was better over his first ten rounds with Fernandez than a peak Duran, Kenty and Davis, Jr. were, and Alex handled Vilomar pretty easily the second time around.)

Nelson would have had serious deficits in height and reach in this situation, bad concessions to concede to Arguello.

Can't you just do a search and bump the old thread? Straight brutal punches win this 1, maybe Arguello could stop Nelson, maybe not, but he'd win

Would be one of the greatest fights of all time. Sure I got into a slanging match with Olu on the old thread :rofl

Arguello stops him in the 13th. Maybe he's been down himself earlier.

Azumah is made for El Flaco Explosivo. Accumulation of accurate punches by Arguello seal's the Professor's fate in the late rounds.
