Tragic and sad news. I've always admired his class and style in the ring...and it was very apparent that the man had class and style outside the ring as well...Boxing has lost a great ambassador. RIP Alexis.
Oh my god. That was literally my reaction, as well as having my jaw hanging open while reading through 3 pages of comments. If not for the fact that I'm at work at the moment my jaw would still probably be hanging down to the ground. I'm absolutely gutted, as I consider Alexis to be pretty much everything a boxer should strive both in and out of the ring. Just an incredible gentleman, wonderful person, and a great, great fighter. I'm so torn by the news. Hell, I never post from work but I had to in this case. I mean, it's Alexis. This is gutwrenching. :sad2 Vaya con dios, senor Arguello. I hope whatever demons drove you to this are gone now, and that you're at peace.
I'll never forget the conversation Arguello had with Mancini in the ring after they fought, absolutely summed the man up. RIP
No...No...No...NOOO!!!atsch The last time I remember a boxing related obituary effecting me even remotely like this was when Sal Sanchez passed. It has to be a bad dream. I can't believe this was self-inflicted. He knew he had too many millions of friends around the world willing to help him deal with any personal demons he had. As things stand now, Alexis is the first one I'm going to be thinking of when looking back at who left us in 2009, and he'll ALWAYS be the first one I think of when remembering the first half of the year.
This one hits me harder than any celeb death..in fact I esteem Arguello as something apart from mere "celebrities".
I think everything has been said already, very sad day, Alexis was a gentleman, brilliant fighter, this is a real gutter. RIP Alex
