I been watching film of him in his prime. i really like his style and his all around abilities. He reminds of a lightweight joe louis. not just in the way he throws punches, but also in his demeanor and class.
..............In or out of the ring, you couldn't ask for much more. A consummate gentleman who would hand you your head between the ropes, and then console you and shake your hand with an honest smile afterward.
Without doubt one of the classiest fighters out of the ring I've ever seen, and one of the best inside it. Brutal power, excellent timing, and great variety in his shots. Was an excellent finisher, never neglected the body, great at finding the open spot.
Arguello was an amazing fighter he stayed so calm and was one of the greatest punchers, power, accuracy and a great finisher. He was also total class as well I can't image anyone not being a fan of Alexis nice guy and exciting fighter.
He was patient above everything else, which made Alexis that much better. Funny how hard he had it coming up in boxing, even harder than most.
One of the all ime greats for sure-much better than Chavez. The first loss to Pryor must have been crushing.
One of the best I have seen in my life time. His style was unique.... I still wonder how he did to overcome alll the BS he had to deal with at that time.
Your comparison with Louis is spot on thats who he has allways reminded me of,patient and probing behind a hard jab with that perfectly delivered deadly right finisher cocked and ready, his foot work was a little slow ,but his judgement of distance and timing made up for it a great fighter ,and by all accounts a decent man.
I work with kids, and anytime I get a tall lanky one I tell them to look at Arguellos fights on you tube. Always had his hands up, great fundamentals, and could punch like a mule. Fought with much poise as well.
