Difficult fight to pick...I lean towards Sanchez outpointing Arguello similarly to how Marcel did it...at lightweight or Junior lightweight, I think Arguello would win.
I'll go Arguello. The fact that he's taller and has a longer reach forces Sal to make the fight and I thought he was better when the other guy was doing that. Also I just don't see the likes of Patrick Ford, Pat Cowdell or that green a version of Azumah Nelson causing Alexis the same level of difficulty that they caused Chava. Good technical fight, though. Not your average Hispanic tear up. It goes the distance and I wouldn't imagine either hits the deck.
Sanchez at FW, Arguello at JLW. If it wasn't for the accident, we might have seen that fight, presumably at LW in late 82...which of course means that the Pryor fight might not have happened until later, which could have changed a lot of things.
Sanchez by decision. I think he could move well enough to box Arguello and bang with him when he had to. Sanchez was also an excellent counterpuncher. Not an easy call because you have two of the elite featherweights that ever laced them up.
Sanchez! fans were robbed of his future.His skill would have translated into the 140lb division .Now him and Pryor would have been a scrap. I'd favor Pryor though
Alexis by close ud. Salvador a mega talent, but no way is he beating Kenty, Davis jr, Camacho, Rosario, or Mancini. Maybe O'Grady or Serrano, or Chacon.
Sanchez would outpoint Alexis at this weight imo. Here are some sage words Arguello said about himself regarding divisions and time - This content is protected AA - Well, i was a boy. I was 19 years old. I didn't know what i know now. I didn't know what i was doing, because i was just a kid. This content is protected AA - I was a solid fighter by then and knew what i was doing. I won my first title in the 126 pound division, which was light for my height. I was sacrificing myself to make the weight. I think all of the above adds up to Sanchez having the advantage. He was extremely suited to the weight and probably close to his full potential where as Alexis was reasonably short of his finest. Neither has a noticable stylistic advantage imo. Arguello hits harder but Sanchez takes a great shot and is extremely sharp.
I watched all of Sanchez major bouts live as well as Alexis. Sanchez was the more complete fighter and would win probably by stoppage late. Sanchez was one of the best all round fighters I ever saw in my lifetime. He could do it all and he never lost his cool.
Highly doubt he'd stop Arguello. Arguello was very durable even at this stage and had big power to thwart over aggression. Arguello actually stayed at Feather for longer than i remembered and had quite a few fights there after beating Olivares. Plenty of lesser men went 15 with Sal.
Darn shame, I don't think we even got to see Sanchez at his best. I was a fan of both guys but I pick Sanchez by decision.
