Both are courageous but Arguello was smarter, had laser accuracy, had one of the biggest right hands in history, and is a ko artist. Not good news for Marquez. Arguello by ko though Marquez may get up maybe once before being put down for the count by another kd punch. Marquez hasn't felt the force of Arguello and that accuracy versus Marquez' lack of defense will give JMM problems. Even past prime I still would favor Arguello because lets not forget the punishment that Marquez would have to walk through and he just doesn't have the endurance to overcome it.

They were fast enough to get out the way of many of Pacmans attacks and he's very dynamic moving forward, more so than Arguello

El Flaco de Explosivo by mid rd KO,and here`s why. JMM is a great fighter, but Arguello is one of THE all time greats. JMM could be dropped, and he has been on several occasions. It is hard to fathom him being able to survive once Arguello hurts him. One of the best finishers in boxing history, and Arguello had great power at lightweight. And if somehow JMM were to drop Arguello, Alexis could come off the deck and come back to win... I love JMM, but Arguello at 135 was a beast !

Arguello is a terrible matchup for JMM IMO.

Perhaps for JMM but not the fans. This would be wild whilst it lasted.

True, but I assumed most hypotheticals on here were because they were hard to split  Not because one guy would deffo get smashed at some point.

Not really. Reason he had success was because he attacked whilst Pac was hitting him. he could deal with the speed.

Little to do with range, the success he ahd in those fights. Sat on his arse, what, four times wasn't it?

I don't think JMM would "deffo" get smashed. Okay, I do, but there's room for debate. PowerPuncher put up a decent counter-argument, for example.

No Pacquaio missed allot because of the quick half steps back, JMM's counters were coming off a back step making Pac miss first and this is when he had the most success with his counters, when he punched with Pacquaio without movement saw him get caught more

As for dealing with taller men with quality jabs, Marquez closes the range very quickly against the equally tall Gainer

Polo was another good performance against a rangy jabber who deserved the decision over WBO champ Harrison

You can see not only his trade mark timing, accuracy but also his ability to quickly close range quickly and a very smart defense. Both fights are worth a watch regardless of your opinion on this match up
