The key to stop Arguello from doing so is making sure he's alive or not, Olivares was beating him in basically everything, but Alexis was still breathing so it's not over and...boom.

Wasn't the KO punch here pretty much the same right hand that landed on Pryor in round 13 in their 1st fight? Difference is that Pryor never came close to being dropped. An iron chin? A tired Arguello not having quite the same snap?

if you each the fight Alexis have a clinic on body punching …. He really did a number on Rooney who dropped his hands and then it was over.

Interesting description by SRL - I personally wouldn’t call that an overhand right - pretty damn straight shot there. I guess Alexis was also a very good non verbal career advisor - Kevin should’ve thanked him. :D

It's funny, Rooney had avoided a heap of good old one-two's up to that point. You have to look, but on this one occasion Rooney decided to throw out a light jab just after Arguello's own jab had hit him............but Arguello was actually in the middle of a one-two and the right hand went straight over his still in motion jab which had left his head on the line and his chin unguarded. BOOM!!

Like you i always considered an overhand right to the one that looped. Over the years i have come to believe that some people also call an overhand right any right hand that has gone over a punch, commonly a jab (like here) or maybe even a hook. I still look for that bit of loop, however big or small.

Yeah I thought that definition might perhaps very loosely apply - a counter “over” the left.

As I’ve read - overhand can also refer to a measure of “loop” in the punch on the horizontal plane - still, Alexis’ punch fits the bill nicely for a straight right hand (qualified as a counter) otherwise - if there’s any loop in his shot at all, it’s ever so slight, just imo.

At any rate, a beautiful shot nonetheless and somewhat Joe Louis-esque. Very pleasing to the eye without the eye having to be necessarily trained to appreciate it.

The punch is virtually gun barrel straight. It's an awesome right hand mate, totally agree. His straight right is indeed similar to Louis' in it's technical perfection and precision. I agree with all you posted, which isn't anything new.
