Taylor is there to hit. With his mix of speedy flurries and ability to box he would cause Arguello all sorts of problems. In a 12 rouner, Taylor PTS. Over 15 Arguello stoppage.

Even over 12 you have to give Arguello a chance; IMO a much bigger hitter than Chavez, he could do some serious damage to Taylor and stop him.

However, over 12 I go for Taylor, widish decision 8-4 something like that.

I see Pea has gone for Arguello stoppage. I'm guessing for similar reasons that I laid out; I'd like to see his thoughts on the fight, this is a good one that I haven't seen done before.

Styles make fights, and Chavez repeatedly timed and hit Taylor clean with brutal right hands.......Chavez does'nt punch nearly as hard as Arguello.

Taylor can very well use his speed and quickness to outpoint Arguello during the early stretch of the fight, but at some point Arguello is going to land a heavy right hand on Taylor......and as has been noted, Taylor can be hit.
As big a heart that Taylor has, I dont see hiim surviving for long after he's been hurt by as big a puncher as Arguello.
After Arguello has hurt Taylor, he has him dead to rights working off his reach advantage and dominating Taylor with the jab to set up brutal rights that at any moment can end everything for Taylor.
After Taylor gets hurt, I just feel Taylor would have a hell of a time getting inside Arguello's jab to land.

Arguello does'nt need 15 rounds for this fight.
Alexis Arguello KO 8 Meldrick Taylor.

Styles make fights, and imo Taylor has a much better chance to beat Pernell Whitaker than he does Alexis.

I agree with Divac's post. Up until the last, completely uneccessary sentence anyway.

Gotta agree with much of that...I actually sorta of feel ya with the last sentence to tell you the truth.

I say Pea beats them both but Taylor could run him pretty close...but then against so does Alexis if we are being frank.

:DI just had to take that dig at my fellow posters such as yourself that think so highly of Pernell.:hey;)

There are alot of posters such as yourself that would regard Pernell Whitaker as more adaptable to different style matchups...... I just wanted to get across that there are certain style matchups that greats with the strenghths of Arguello would have an easier time with than say Pernell Whitaker.

Would'nt you agree that Taylor would fare better against Pernell than Arguello?

I'm not asking who wins between Pernell and Taylor, but who Taylor would likely fare better against?

Personally I dont see it in my mind Taylor winning against Arguello, but I do see where he may be able to do it vs Pernell Whitaker.

    Be honest now!

Fair enough point, I just thought it was out of the blue and unneccessary, derived from your disdain for Whitaker. But then you've admitted it was intential, so no harm done.

I do believe Arguello ultimately beats Taylor more often than not, but I can see Taylor's speed causing more problems to Arguello (who was a slow starter) than it would Whitaker. Being totally honest, aside from the fact that he wouldn't be getting stopped, I don't think Taylor is more capable of pulling off a win against Pea than he is Arguello.

Hmm, my feeling is that Taylor had significantly better handspeed than Whitaker, which would cause Whitaker some problems.

We're talking about a technically sound Taylor with a blurr for a combination, and good ring manueverability.

Over the course of a fight, I would think that Taylor would have a significant chance to outwork, thus outpointing Pernell Whitaker.

From how I see it, is much easier playing defense against a fighter thats not par to your speed, but with Taylor that would'nt be the case for Pernell. Taylor is faster and possibly quicker.

Surely I would like others opinions on this matter.

Mayweather would edge out Arguello at 140...but Meldrick Taylor does not. Taylor gives Alexis problems with his speed, but over time the Explosive Thin Man's accurate punches slowly but surely take their toll. Arguello by TKO in 11-12.

Both fighters represent styles the other will struggle with. Taylor had the speed, boxing skill and movement that Arguello had problems with. Arguello is a big skilled puncher that will exploit Taylor's open defense.

Taylor takes the early rounds taking the odd humdinger, after say round 6 Arguello starts to land more regularly and stops Taylor around the 10th

arguello has trouble early with taylors speed but starts to take charge around the 7th when his power and accuracy start to catch up with taylor ,and he stops taylor in round 12

I pick Taylor by upset over 12 rounds, but he would get kayo in 14 if the 15 round distance is included.
