Been on a bit of an Arguello kick lately and I didn't like the move to 140 at all. He had it going on at 135. Who was the best LW you think he would be favoured to beat? I feel he'd hold his own against pretty much every one even in a loss.
Possibly. Jack is underrated as hell though he's not even in our top top 20 AT lightweights :-( I'd have been throwing **** if I was around to vote
Throw in combinations. Ross, to me, brought his hands back low A LOT. Arguello could do a lot of damage in exchanges, and is what, 5'11?
In the period of time Armstrong was winning titles from feather to welter and back to lightweight, his fighting weight was around 135 lbs.....so this projected fight is legitimate. Arguello's strength was the late rounds, and Armstrong's strength was beating the frap out of an opponent for 15 rounds. Would Arguello been able to handle a total whirlwind like Armstrong??
Alexis was at his best at 130 and below. He's not an atg at lightweight, but he'd give a lot of them a good go for sure.
Williams and Duran (moreso the latter) would be horrific matchups for Arguello. Laguna, Leonard, Ambers, Ross would box his head off. The bullish aggressive types would give Arguello to best chance to utilise his very good jab and incredible array of bludgeoning weapons. Jack 'Kid' Berg, Battling Nelson, Ad Wolgast (over 15 rounds for those two obviously) possibly Henry Armstrong. I'd take Arguello over Chavez at 130. JCC at 135 is a different matter, I think Arguello would give him much more hassle than Rosario did though. Longer, bigger arsenal, better jab, had some nous and better defence. That'd be a great fight. Whitaker (and Mayweather to an extent) is a horrible matchup for him obviously, but Arguello might take Stevie Johnston, Camacho, those are guys I could see Arguello getting to. Arguello Vs Nazarov or 'Old Bones' Brown are fights I haven't considered before. What does everyone think of those?
Yeah I agree but it would be interesting to watch as arguello the taller man with the longer reach comes to the conclusion that he can't out jab Ross
