Could Alexis use his ring savvy, and height to his advantage? Would his precision punches find the elusive Benitez?

Would the power of AA find a mark?

This is the Arguello of the Pryor fight, and the Benitez of the Duran.

Benitez of Duran was of course a Lt Middle, And as Alexis did not like Movers he would find something of a Double Whammy Here, Size and Style, Wilfred is not a wrecker, but Alexis would have to be Careful not to come onto the type of Shot Wilfred found to relive Maurice hope of his Title, with his size and strength here, and mobility he can stay one step ahead of Alexis, well if vilomar Fernandez could do it at lightweight... This is not really a far match for Alexis, put him in wioth a Jr Welter Wilfred and the completion of this match would change...

If Duran could not beat Wilfred at this weight, I would not favor AA to do it either.

Unless AA can set Benitez up for his powerful right, He will be stuck chasing Benitez all night.

I am not sure if AA could catch el radar at any weight. BUT I am very uneasy about this prediction.

For some reason , I think Arguello would win this, I am just not sure how.

Have to go with Benitez here. He was just the naturally bigger and stronger man. To be clear I don't always automatically favor the big guy, but in this case you have two extremely talented ATG's, in which case the larger one has to be given the edge.

Benitez of Duran fight was 154 lbs. Arguello of Pryor was 140 lbs.

Anyway, Benitez would not get hit by Arguello's bombs if they ever fought. Benitez would win a decision.

Arguello was too slow to ever catch Benitez and even at 14O his chances are nil....Benitez is too big, fast and is an expert off the ropes. Too much of a stylistic advantage for El Radar....too much defense and size. Consider that Hearns at his most lethal, couldn't touch Benitez and you have you're answer.

In addition to being a great fighter with tremendous boxing skills, Wilfredo Benitez weighed from 140 to 154 pound during his peak years. Alexis Arguello was at his best while weighing from 126 to 135 pounds and had some trouble fighting smaller fighters who had skills, but were not nearly as good as Benitez, We also know what happened to Arguello when he fought a great 140-lber, Aaron Pryor. As a result, I can't see how Arguello could match up well with Benitez, who was bigger (during much of his career) and had more boxing skill than Pryor.

Heres the problem I see with Arguello against Benitez: One of the things that made the prior fights so great was that Aaron was there to be hit. Arguello was getting hit too but he was able to land and land hard enough that it was a good two way action fight. If Pryor can hit Arguello then Benitez can too and Benitez isnt going to be getting hit nearly as much as Pryor was. Benitez was bigger than Pryor as well and if Benitez can take on a prime Hearns and do as well as he did then he has nothing really to fear from Arguello.

Arguello still had the power to get Benitez's attention at 140...But Benitez was so good in the pocket he would stifle and negate Arguello imo.
Recently again watched Benitez v Duran @ 154...El Radar was excellent. He took away Duran's usual tactics by going to the body hard.

Arguello was an exceptional fighter but could be extended by boxers, especially as he got older and fought in heavier divisions .. he lost in a huge upset to then little known Vilomar Fernandez at 135 and Vilomar was purely a boxer/cutie .. Benitez won his first world title at 17 years old against Cervantes in a huge upset but also almost got destroyed by Bruce Curry soon after at the same weight .. Alexis best shot would be at 140 and at that weight catching a very young Benitez it is an interesting fight .. after that Wilfredo was simply too big for him .. At his prime, Wilfredo was an exceptional fighter although a true flake .. to this day no one can seem to verify if he trained, if he didn't, how to justify his off the cart behavior, ect .. still, again, at 140, 147 and for a while at 154 he was terrific ..

Wilfred takes a lopsided decision on this one, the one fighter outside of Mamby that Alexis probably didn't want to deal with.

With such a large size advantage and terrific boxing skills, Wilfredo Benitez would win handily over Alexis Arguello, who had a great deal of trouble with much smaller skillful boxers.

Great posts and insights all thru the thread. I reckon the version of Benitez was meant to be the one that beat Cervantes, a brilliant fighter.

Can't add much to the above. Benitez is just so slick. Arguello's only real chance would be to concentrate on the body, and he would be in that he had a very consistent body attack. I would doubt he would do enough damage to overly worry Benitez later even over a 15 round fight.

Benitez chin can be iffy but he's very elusive when hurt and certainly wasn't prone to getting stopped with one shot.

Bad matchup for Alexis. Elusive fighters are nis nemesis H2H imo, i don't think it's rocket science tho.
