Titles aside, I would consider Gomez a step up from Rhodes and Bundrage a step down.

I'm not hyping up Alfonso Gomez either. :yep As stated before, I don't really like the guy. I'm just being a little more realistic than those in here reacting as though Alvarez is taking on some lightweight tomato can.

Gomez is simply a solid guy who knows how to fight but will get destroyed by any elite anywhere close to their able (let alone prime) years. The jury is out on Alvarez being elite yet, and a big dominant win over Gomez would make some significant headway toward answering that.

    K-9 Bundrage SUCKS!

It was only a few years ago that Joel Julio destroyed him. And Joel Julio is NOT an elite fighter.

I really wouldn't. The mere fact that Bundrage has a title, a huuuuge fact that you'd like to ignore, makes him head and shoulders above Alfonso Gomez as a legitimate opponent for Alvarez.

It may in promotional terms, but I've gone on record ever since he beat Spinks saying that K9 is the worst and luckiest paper champ of this era.

The fact that he has made a successful defense against a former top guy, and in the process avenged a loss (albeit someone coming off a 15 month layoff and who fought like a ***** with no motivation whatsoever) gives fuel to those who might want to legitimze him as a top junior middleweight, but he isn't.

Bundrage is well below average (and I consider Gomez more or less average) and the fact that he holds the IBF belt really is just a black mark on the IBF more than anything IMO.

Cotto, Lara, and Molina mop the floor with Cornelius. Angulo renders him unconscious (and I'm not even very high on Angulo). Even Wolak or Konecny would beat him.

This whole forum called them both bums right after their fight.

I said it was just a bad performance but Molina is actually for real as now saw.

I still think Canelo beats them both.

I'll never forget that post-fight interview with Tyson where he referred to K9 as "Mr. Bundy, the gentleman who got knocked out."

I'm tired of everyone defending him by saying how young he is and how we shouldnt pay attention to the belt he's still a growing fighter..... well I dont give a ****!!! You were given a title pretty much and you accepted it and now you have to accept what comes along with it and thats fighting CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL OPPOSITION!!!!!!

People wanna say the belts a burdon well its a burdon he choose to carry so ****in carry it and step the **** up. Wilfredo Benitez was champion at 17 so cry me a ****in river. Vargas was champ at 21 also and he was fighting guys like Winky Wright, Ike Quartey, a still good Yori Boy Campos and Raul Marquez..... And there aint no Felix Trinidad's around unless he fights Pacquiao so I dont wanna hear that bull**** "Well look what happened to Vargas".

Step the **** up all ready you have 40 ****in pro fights maybe you shouldve stayed in the amatuers or not take gift titles if you werent ready for the big boys.

I think you should call GBP as that is who awarded the belt and who assigns Canelo's next fights... Canelo just fights whoever is in front.. GBP is pleasing most everyone except the most hardcore of haters... But who cares if you got haters you doing well.

I have no doubts about that its GBP playing games looking to make a cash cow like every other promotor does. So most of my anger is towards them but as a fighter you can choose to say "come on guys seriously???".

This is a huge step down from Rhodes who I think is a way better fighter although he def wanted no part of Canelo and gave the fight away. I dont see why they would take such a big step down. I understand Gomez is popular and all but I'm sure you could find a more popular fighter who would give Canelo a little more of a test. Mayorga wouldve been a fun fight and a good test to see how Canelo dealt with a awkward and still powerful but past his best fighter and also Mayorga is a way bigger name then Gomez and he wouldve gotten a better test and more reward for beating him.

I'm just hoping in his next fight he fights one of the other belt holders even if it's Bundrage who's size and power and style could pose some issues but he's clearly not an elite fighter and Canelo should be able to whoop that ass. Angulo would be my dream fight for him next also Wolak but I'd settle for Vanes, Molina or even Powell or Spinks. I doubt he'll fight Cotto just too big of a step up right now plus neither GBP or Top Rank wanna risk there fighter losing to the other and Dzindziruk at this point would be to high risk low reward in the less hardcore publics mind because of how bad he was destroyed by Martinez. And if he got a big win on US tv I doubt Golden Boy would want to put him in with Dzinziruk the guy is THAT good the fight with Martinez just showed how great Martinez is more then how bad Dzindziruk is plus style wise Martinez seems to be great against other southpaws and punches with more power as seen in the two Williams fights and the Dzindziruk fight as apposed to the Pavlik fight when he really wasnt throwing his punches with the power he did vs PW and SD. Even against Cintron he was throwing more point scoring punches the the big knock out shots against PW and SD.
