i counted 10 fights over 147....the rest were welterweights...so dont know where you get your stats or math equation from

Someone needs to go back to kindergarten...

    Career weigh-ins:

    148.5

    145
    145.5

    152.25
    149

    147

    148
    146
    152.5
    151.75
    151.5
    149
    159.5
    157.5
    156
    156.5
    147.5

    147

    148
    148.25

    145.5
    144.5
    135.5
    146
    144
    143.5
    144.5
    147
    144.75

Those at or under the welterweight limit of 147 are in bold. The rest are over.

So, 13 of his 29 bouts at welterweight. One was technically at light welterweight (135.5, just a shade above the lightweight limit). So 12 at welterweight, and the bulk of those very early on when he first started out.

16 above welterweight (yet you counted ten :?)

So excuse me - that is more like two fifths of his career, not one fifth. I was a bit off. (sorry for not relying solely on Boxrec to base all my opinions on when arguing boxing online).

That's still the MAJORITY of his career bouts weighing in at more than 147 (and four were at middleweight).

It would have sucked too. Would about Vanes? Or Lara? Or Angulo? or Molina? or Chavez Jr? But Gomez? That sucks.

you can look at boxrec all you want...and you still dont get that info correct...so let me school you once again junior...but first...gomez aint no ****ing junior middleweight...never has been, and hasnt fought as one in the last few years to warrant getting a title shot there...so why you are taking up for a guy that will get slaughtered ala cotto..i have no ****ing idea
    pay attention...

    gomez has 29 fights
16 fights are no questions ****ing asked welterweight fights
gomez weights are on the left
all the ones you listed at 147.5 , 148 being junior middle are bull**** if the other guy made 147...means gomez came in heavy..welterweight fight :deal

these contender fights for your case of being junior middle, who cares, 7 years ago? give him a shot at the tile for 2004 fights to be technical, they are even 154 pound fights.. so thats 19 fights so far...NONE at junior middle

    This content is protected
NUMBER of fights at welterweight 21

NUMBER of fights at junior middle 4

NUMBER of fights at middle 4

should he be conisdered for a shot at the WBC 154 pound title based on this? or simply based on the simple fact of "he aint beat no god damn body!"

    class dismissed :hi:

Gomez is primarily a Welterweight but he does have the background of fighting at higher weight classes a decent amount. If you're talking about what he's accomplished at 154 lbs, no, he does not deserve a title shot at that weight class based on what he's done there. But by that same token, Canelo doesn't deserve to have the title based on the opposition he's fought, which is far worse than Gomez's level of opposition overall.

In a nutshell, with Canelo you have to throw out the title belt and realize the guy is all of 20 years old, still a prospect despite the belt and his number of fights. He didn't deserve the belt, but he's got it due to his strong promotional push, he's simply not ready for the top tier yet, and Golden Boy is going to match him according to his experience, not what the belt warrants. From that perspective, Gomez is the best opponent that he has faced to date, and as IB said, he's easily better than Bundrage, who holds a title at the weight class(due to great timing). Gomez has good all-around boxing ability, can take a punch, and again, most importantly will actually throw punches at Canelo the entire time, unlike most of Canelo's opponents who shell up and just try to survive. People talk about how Canelo has been fighting smaller guys, and that's true, but most of those guys have made no effort to actually tag Canelo on a regular basis to boot. Gomez is going to be throwing 80-100 punches per round at him, which will be a new experience for Canelo, and we're going to see how he responds to that as generally Canelo likes to be more economical with his punching and is not used to that kind of output coming his way round after round.

the point is...why Gomez? what have gomez done to deserve this fight/?
i say the guy who deserves this fight right away is Carlos Molina...unless canelo wants to unify some belts and then K-9 should be the safest place to look at.

Why Gomez? Because its a fight that Canelo can win easily and will look good doing it because Gomez can punch back unlike Rhodes who was just a punching bag. Canelo is starting to look like a joke! He did show improvements on his last fight but its time to up the ante! Atleast take on some other clown. They had mentioned Mayorga, why not him? I see Canelo beating Mayorga but we all know Mayorga will be his biggest test up to date. Or how about Martisoryan, K9, Molina (for december?), Wolak (for december?) someone with a pulse?

up for grabs WBC light middleweight title

Molina - #6 light middle - possible chance of upset

Gomez- #7 welterweight- no chance of upset

so, i guess everyone can see why an unranked junior middleweight will get a crack at the belt
