My God what a fight! A 2 sided war...a shootout that might make people forget that 1st round of Hagler-Hearns...and this one goes on for 2...3 rounds. By round 4 Zamora breaks through with the kind of artillery that destroyed Pedroza...and out like a light a very proud warrior Danny Romero goes...struggling to pull himself up by using the ropes...only he doesn't make it in time.
Hmmmm I need to watch some Romero! Any suggestions on what fights are a good place to start? Embarrassed that I am to ill informed to give an opinion.
Romero was a devastating puncher (though Zamora was even more devastating). His full fight/KO of Sibali used to be on Youtube, but sadly I don't see it anymore. That would have been a good place to start to witness his power. Here's one though: This content is protected
Tapia-Romero was WAAYYY closer than today's narrative has spun it. Tapia groupies have led people who have never seen the fight to believe Tapia pitched some shutout. In reality? I only had Tapia winning 7-5.
I have seen that one but did not score it. I will when I go through the rest of the Romero fights I have on tap. I did think Tapia won....but that is useless without a card. 7-5/8-4 from the judges also support your side. here I am leaning towards Zamora but I need to watch some more Romero before I am comfortable saying that.
I just rewatched and scored this fight and also had it 7-5, although 8-4 Tapia like 2 of the judges and Ledderman are fair as well imo. I think the main reason people remember it wide is “commentary” it influences people more than they want to admit. Ledderman having it 116-112 was fine him saying it was not even close sticks in people’s minds. Tapia was flashier and won his rounds a little more comfortably might add to that illusion. I do think both guys fought well but that Tapia was in control and not in danger pretty much throughout even in rounds 5-8 which I scored for Romero.
Got a pick yet @PhillyPhan69? I'm very interested in your response after all the scoring you've done.
getting close. Got a few more I want to check out. Really wished I could find Zamora’s 2nd fight Soo Hong Hwan where he scores a 12th rd KO in a close fight (by the judges) just to get a better feel for his late round power and how he adapts. Zarate stops him to soon and he steamrolls most everyone else. I think Romero is much more than just a live dog...I think it’s a very close fight that he could win...just not sure if that Is pick it? Yet?
