Ok the only ones ill put above Angulo are Martinez,Williams and Cory SPinks whos style might not be right for Angulo. I wont count Mosley since hes not a JM no more. He would ko Cintron in a rematch. Santos is way past his best Latimore that would be an exciting fight but id still take Angulo Alcine Ill take Angulo Martirosyan Maybe he might end up being better but not yet Foreman This is a pretty even matchup but im leaning towards EL Perro Oh yeah former Champ Sergio Mora should be in your top 10 the upset over Forrest should have him there also hed be a difficult fight for most of the top 10 JM. Although Id probably pick Angulo over him, id give Mora a legit shot.
Mora is not a light-middle. He has exactly two fights at 154. Mora is a middleweght, and because most people think he's an idiot, he gets under rated.
I would lean towards Pavlik if they fought anytime in the near future who obviously is bigger, stronger, and more battle tested of the 2.
I dont know why people feel that way about Mora, I was happy for him when he pulled the improbable upset over Forrest. Maybe im biased since he use to live down the street from my Kid and ive known of him since his amatuer days I mentioned him at JM since both of his title shots were there. He seemed to get shafted out of a big payday against Pavlik in the summer and nothing has come his way since.
Mora has a fight coming up against TBA on January 30th. He needs to stay busy and work his way into a mandatory position. I think that's the only way he ever gets a shot. By the way, Great Avatar!
Angulo's got good size to do what he does at light middleweight, where he gets obscenely close to everyone and tees off on them, but to do that to the much larger Pavlik, he'd have to be very quick. He's not. He's more Margarito-like speed-wise. He would make Pavlik look like a cheetah. He probably wouldn't be allowed in and Pavlik isn't just a legit MW. He's a big MW champion. Angulo would get hammered. He has much better chances sticking to 154 where he can force a dog fight with most of the guys there. I'm pulling for him getting a hold of an ABC title there, even if he can't keep it. It'd just be nice to see a real gritty, toe-to-toer get that distinction on his resume.
Thats good i hope its a meaningful fight, although maybe he needs a tuneup since hes been out a while. Hey thanks :good Chacon was my favorite as a kid coming up along with your guy Lopez, who is my dads AT favorite in fact when i was younger me and my family would bump into Little Red occasionly as he is practically from my hometown(next city over). As an adult ive had the pleasure of meeting Danny at the fights and at the WBHOF banquets. My dad went to the Chacon Lopez fight in the early 70s(i was too young) that was a pretty huge fight in LA , 2 of the hottest prospects at the time. Like your Avi too,i was gonna put a Lopez one on but Ill let you be the only one with Little Red:good
Angulo is 5' 10". His reach is 69". He has a large chest and shoulders and absurdly short arms. He is a natural 154 pounder with 18 fights. No one in their right mind would match Angulo with Pavlik. This kind of **** only happens on ESB. Not in real life.
I really have to agree with you on all of your post. I particulary agree with the part of it being nice to see a gritty toe to toe type fighter in the mix of things. It's exciting to see and would help boxing as a sport. I pretty much always root for the brawler in even matchups. Angulo though is the exception in my book. It's not very objective, but I can't root for a guy that HBO does everything they can to blow up. He just isn't that good. I honestly think that HBO has pulled a fast one on a good portion of us boxing junkies into letting us think that this guy is a top ten fighter. He just isn't as far as I'm concerned. He has absolutely horrid hand and footspeed. He also doesn't cut the ring off very well. I just don't find him intriguing as a fighter. I think that HBO sees him as a potential cash cow because he likes to go to war, but more importantly, he's a Mexican fighter at a somewhat higher weight. That is what HBO is pushing because they know that their largest demographic for boxing is latino, and Mexican in particular. The fact that so called fight fans on this message board can't see this or see the fact that Angulo just isn't a top level fighter absolutely bogles my mind. Then again, most people are just lemmings that can't think for themselves. This point is proven considering how many idiots are posting and talking about the whole drug testing soap opera that has been created by the two promoters of Pac/Mayweather. It's obviously just a ploy to create even more interest in their fight and really has no consequence on whether the fight will happen or not. And yet people talk about the subject as if it were real.
Got to agree with this, I dont think Angulo has the scope to do himself justice at 160 whereas Pavlik is a big middleweight. Angulos style + his size makes him a very comfortable matchup for Pavlik IMO. Dont get me wrong I really like Angulo but not at 160 and deffo not against KP :deal
Pavlik is not a "big" middleweight. He is a HUGE middleweight. Just how big he really is gets lost amid the Taylor and Miranda fights. Those guys were also very big at 160, so the size difference between them and Pavlik was not as pronounced as normal. Espino was straight off the "C" list, but he is an average sized middleweight. He said he's tried to get down to 154, but can't get under 156. Now look at this short video. Take special not of Pavlik's back. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEtxGAhMj8k[/ame]
Pavlik's being underrated here. He'd stop Angulo around the half-way mark. Too big, too strong, more skilled, better jab, and has the chin to take Angulo's punches at 160.
Angulo by shutout. This is the best all-around boxer since Robin Reid, developing right before our eyes.
