Diego Corrales knocks Escalara out in the mid-rounds. He was like Tommy Hearns at 130, it would be like the Arguello fight.

Corrales was great in a slugfest. but against a smooth boxer, he was in trouble. Escalera was a great boxer, who could hit and avoid Corrales' blows without much difficulty. Escalera UD.

Arguello didn't knock him out in the mid rounds and Diego is no Arguello.

I think Escalera would knock Corrales out. Better chin and good enough boxing ability to bring on the pain.

Escalera is a pretty tough hombre.

Somebody is going to get TKO'ed.

At Jr. lightweight, I am taking Escalera late.

Indeed, late is my thinking too. Might be a tad behind on the cards as well, building to the drama of what would be a savage encounter.

Sorry, I meant to say late rounds. But I feel that Corrales' legacy at 130 has taken a hit to a lot of people because of his loss to Mayweather, who had good pop at this weight too. What I mean by like the Arguello fight, is that Corrales would have the height, and I think length advantage.

There is, but no great super featherweight comes to mind.

If they had limited movement and weak chins, he'd be a chance with them.

He might for instance have a chance against a Roger Mayweather type. Of course Corrales' own chin would come inot question in that one, and so I could see them splitting fights. Corrales had the better whiskers of course.

Here is list to choose from as opponents:

How about Coralles bouncing Hecto "Macho" Camacho's butt off the canvas a few times.....that might have started the "Edwin Rosario" complex in Hector's mind a few years earlier.

Imo , Corales is the winner in this one , Escalera was a good 130 pounder of that time , but imo Corales has proved himself as a near enough top class brawler , with definit top class power , has plenty of hart and a good resume in his own right. He woul win by stoppage at some point here

Escalera wasn't a bad boxer, but he still made his living off of pressure, rather than off pure technical ability. I think Chico manages to do pretty well against that style...and scores a late stoppage.

Just interested, do the people here picking Corrales to stop Escalera think that Diego has Arguello like power or boxing skills? Because he took it to Arguello right to the final rounds and against someone inferior in boxing ability and power, you'd have to fancy Escalera to survive. That's if you think Arugello was superior in those categories. I wonder if the people picking Escalera to be stopped actually do think that...

Dont think that hr has the boxing skills of Arguello , but the power is similar , cmon , Arguello and Coralles are both devastating power punchers , Arguello would have the better chim , but i just see hart being a major factor WHENEVER Corales fights a decent oponent who can give him trouble , it takes a lllllllot to stop Corales at his best. Hewould stop him here

It might have. But Diego's probably a little too slow and won't catch up to him until the late rounds, by which time he'll probably be way behind on the cards.

I think Corrales would have great fights with the likes of Chacon, Limon, Boza Edwards, Tony Lopez, Gatti, Ivan Robinson, Jesus Chavez. All those fights would be wars.
