If Corrales had to make 130 in the era of same day weigh ins, he would have done one of two things; passed out between rounds, or say screw it and be a welterweight.
Assuming day before, he looks okay in this match. Corrales did beat better fighters than Escalera beat and didn’t lose to any fighters who as bad some of the guys who beat Escalera.
Quite true, but you can only fight the opponents of your respective eras, you cannot fight other fighters in the future or past, only the present. But all of us speculate, which makes these post fun and interesting. Everyone's opinions are great to watch. Alfredo Escalera was a good boxer, he was susceptible to cuts, as in the first Arguello fight in 1978. Diego Corrales is also a fine fighter, who can hit hard with both hands. Escalera takes this one by very narrow majority decision after 15 action packed rounds. Diego does cut Alfredo over the eyes, which almost stops the bout.
