Arguello aside, what were his best fights?

Split verdict over undefeated Tyrone Everette in Philadelphia in 1976 is a pretty big feather in his cap I’d say.

(I thought this was on the Creed-Balboa I undercard but that was Jan. 1 at the Spectrum and this took place in November.)

I dont recall it being a good fight. Tyrone outboxed him the whole fight.
The 2 Arguello fights are cant miss. Escalera was there to fight so anyone who brought it made for a good fight. Very exciting fan friendly fighter who doesnt get enough attention IMO

Possibly, but Shibata was really getting on and a pretty fragile, smaller guy.

Yes, I love the Arguello fights, some of the best, I still cannot believe the punishment Escalera absorbed in the first fight and still kept coming. He suffered a broken jaw and nose, a broken tooth, a cut on the tongue, a broken ear, one eye closed, and the other halfway there. Not sure there's anything else Arguello could have done to finish him. What a guy, that Escalera.

I do have to agree that the two bouts with Alexis Arguello were the best fights for The Snake Man Alfredo Escalera. But his bout against Ray Lunney III, on Sept 18 1976, TKO 12, was one of his better performances.
