Did anyone see this fight? How did Snipes manage to lose?

I don't remember Snipes losing to this guy, then again obviously it was a very very long time ago, 83-84?- Snipes must have had an off night to lose to this man...

Snipes is best remembered for nearly pulling off a huge upset over Holmes, i still remember that right hand home run bomb landing on Larry's grill nearly knocking him out...

Snipes wasn't nearly the hype job Cooney was, and gave Holmes...tougher fight than Gerry did..

How did anyone ever lose to Alfredo the tomato, maybe the worst heavy I've ever seen including in club fights.

Waiaiaiat a minute. He did not have a bad record, fought some good guys & lesser lights with a good record, & before '86 (he lost 5 of 9 from after then), had a very good record.
He got title fights with Ali & Holmes, how on earth could he been as bad or worse than the worst club fighters?

Snipes was green throughout his career, he had an awkward style of punching but was never a polished guy

Good points, he was still awful and inept. I was a bantam and wonder if I couldn't have beat him in a four rounder.

But there were worse challengers - Evangelista KO'd JP Coopman in 1 , and he also KO'd Lusien Rodrigues 3 times.

Considering that Snipes, awkward as he was, could always jab, double jab and then move at the very least, it is one of the great mysteries of the universe how he could lose to a slow, pudgy mug like Evangelista....

I don't think it's fair to say Evangelista is worse than many club fighters. He was a journeyman, granted with a very padded record. But it is a mystery to me how Snipes lost to him. All I can guess is that he took him lightly and got outworked.

If his nickname was "Fettuccini" then he should have gotten more title shots

Snipes should be ashamed of himself. It was the night, him and Quick Tillis lost their contendership.

Snipes also drew with Scott Frank!

Snipes was a handfull, he was not lazy and was always in shape. but he was one of those guys who could unsettle great fighters and yet be incapable of having an easy fight against any level of fighter.

I remember him giving Biggs a scare too. Against an unbeaten Witherspoon he nearly won.

Evangelista was not a journeyman because he held titles and was a main event attraction in Europe. Didn't mean he was close to being a world beater either but He was a genuine lower tier top ten guy in his own right. Were Marvis Frazier, Leon Spinks, David Bey, Leroy Jones and Ossie Ocasio really that much better?

And drew with Scott Frank and lost to Ricky Parkey!!

Snipes was exciting because you never knew what you would get with him. Never an easy winner.

This fight came closest to summing up Snipes career. His scrap with Journeyman Lionel Washington. With a very small cameo early on of prime Dickie Davies for us Brits of a certain generation!
