Choklab has summed it up well.
I got a little interest in Snipes due to his bout with Tyrell.
Snipes had notable wins against Berbick and Du Ploy but had a couple of dissapointing defeats.
Pushed Biggs close in a good fight to watch.
When it looked like his days were gone he then went on a 10 fight win streak.
He was talked of as an opponent for Tyson in 1990 but he broke his hand and Alex Stewart got the fight.
Snipes was a good fighter, lower top 10 standard who on his night would give anyone a good fight.
He now lives in New York, an article i read said he's doing fine and in 2012 was given a community award for fundraising.

Snipes did get robbed vs Witherspoon, however.

If I remember correctly Snipes was penalized mutliple points for low blows. But I could be wrong. I have never seen the fight just read about the result in KO magazine 35 plus years ago

By the time he fought Snipes, Evangelista was certainly a Journeyman.

For anyone who watched Ken Norton fight and cam away thinking how awkward Norton was, you ain't seen nothing till you've seen Renaldo Snipes snipes. Throw in that Snipes was a tough guy, with a good chin and skilled boxers always had issues with him.

Latter in life Snipes was best known for attending a John Gotti trail and was told to leave due to his intimidating appearance possibly influencing the jury.

Snipes also lost around this time with Rickey Parkey.
& was inactive for a couple of years & come back & struggles with Donnie Long. i think.
Snipes was okay for about 2 or 3 fights in whole career.

    Don’t agree.

Evangelista was unbeaten since a recent European title challenge against Lucian Rodriguez. A run of 3. Fredo was still big in Spain and Was winning fights again. He was getting hand picked opponents, and Journeymen don’t get handpicked opponents.

Evangelista Had won a fight in America and took on Snipes on the Dokes v Coetzee undercard. Witherspoon fought Tillis that night too. So there were a bunch of name guys fighting on that bill. Evangelista was just one of them.

In fact snipes had won just one of his last six fights. In back to back fights he’d fought Coetzee, Holmes, Frank, Witherspoon, Berbick and Page. So against those guys, snipes was the guy getting thrown to the lions in his last few fights. Not Fredo.

Trouble counting to 6 or just another porky pie?

Some very serious context also purposely hidden too.

Two fights prior to Evangelista Snipes dropped Trevor Berbick along the way to making himself the WBC #1 contender apparently. He and Greg Page then fought a eliminator for a shot at Holmes title. While Snipes lost that he still extremely highly rated.

Snipes loss to Witherspoon was also somewhat controversial and very close.

As for Snipes being the opponent, or being thrown to the lions against Evangelista well

Alfredo was in the U.S. because the ‘boxing economy’ in Europe was so bad that he took home less than $2K for a European title fight with Lucien Rodriguez. There was more money to be made in the U.S.

He was making $500 a week sparring with Michael Dokes, who fought Gerrie Coetzee in the main event, and $5K for the Snipes fight. There was promise of a bigger-money fight coming off the win but apparently he went back home and took a stay-busy fight against a nobody and lost it.
