    and (9 1/2 years later) again on January 8, 1987

    It must have been some kind of EBU record.

    There were guys with worse records for sure, but oh did I think the tomato Evangilista was an awful heavyweight. I'm glad he made a few bucks against Ali, etc., as he didn't have it coming, for anyone to look as inept against a trained on ice cream and cake Ali like he did and call themselves a contender was embarresing.

    Just how did the WBA rank him #6, just before he lost to Lorenzo Zanon,,,,,,

    Fighting in his home country, Evangilista loses 7 out of 8 rounds to Zanon, and qualifies
    for a title shot versus Muhammad Ali.

    Remember how inept Alfredo looked against Ali, well he looked worse when he
    fought Zanon. Alfredo didn't lay a glove on Zanon.

    They had Alfredo in their year end annual rankings.

    I can imagine. Zanon seemed like a very tricky boxer against Quarry and Holmes, who knew how to fight well on the back foot almost 100% of the time and had a good jab. His main problem was that he had an astonishingly bad chin; one of the worst I've ever seen at the world title level.

    Alfredo always had a weight problem, and did not like to train.

    Was over-matched versus Ali in 1977 and Holmes in 1978.
    His inexperience showed in both of those bouts.

    He actually had a pretty good left hook to the body.

    What's the story of his fight with Renaldo Snipes? Evangelista was well past his contender years and he was fighting abroad. Did he deserve the decision? If so, it's one of the forgotten upsets in boxing, since Snipes had recently fought close fights with Coetzee, Holmes, Berbick (beating him) and ESB Classic's Champion of the Century, "Super" Greg Page.

    Born in Uruguay, but made his residence in Spain.

    Never won the 'Espana' Spanish Heavyweight Championship.

    Accomplished something that Muhammad Ali and Joe Bugner couldn't.
    He Knocked-out Rudi Lubbers.

    Accomplished something that Larry Holmes and Michael Dokes couldn't.
    He Knocked-out Lucien Rodriguez. He did it twice.
