...because Pacquiao is completely unproven at 140lbs, of course. He fought once at the weight, back in 2009, for the lightly regarded IBO title. Pacquiao has done literally nothing to merit being ranked at 140, let alone getting a shot at the uundefeated champ. That would be really embarrassing.
 They weren't in his backyard last time. He is from Huntington. They fought in Brooklyn. YDKSANYC.
There was a rematch clause in Provodnikov's contract. Roach said they would force a rematch in neutral territory with neutral judges and ref., however, why didn't the referee stop the fight? Algieri's eye was swollen shut by the 8th round, he could not see out of it. Rules are that if you can't see out of your eye, the fight will be stopped. I have seen many fights stopped on an eye not nearly as bad as that. Provodnikov landed the much more damaging blows, he was untouched, but Algieri looked like a truck ran over him.............
I completely agree, it wasnt in algeris hometown in literal sense but he was definitely way more favoured by the crowd and the judges. you are completely correct. hopefully there is better judging next time.
The first fight was a decent scrap and close enough that a rematch makes sense but every close fight doesn't warrant a rematch. I was rooting for Provodnikov to get the KO after the 1st rd but this guy Algeri boxed his head off. If you add up the total time they were in control of the fight Provodnikov probably won a combined 6/7 mins of the fight everything else was being dominated by Algeri. Outside of the 1st rd Provodnikov had an average of 10 good sec a rd which imo wasn't enough to offset him being controlled for 85% of every rd. landing 1 hard punch a rd doesn't win you a rd if your opponent hit you close to 50 times a rd. It looked like a 114-112 type fight Ruslan just came up short.
Not really. They may as well be located on the opposite coast from each other, for all the cultural & socioeconomic roots & identity they share.
There was/is no real controversy here, just a few goons shrieking hysterically for no reason. Nobody who knows how to score has any problem with the result, even if they had it for Provodnikov by a point. (similar to Herrera vs. Provodnikov)
