The word BUM was flying about these boards prior to the fight.

I hope the naysayers are back here giving him props now.

Great performance, and certainly looks stronger and heavier handed at the weight.

I had it 114-114, and that was with khan nicking the last round on my scorecard.

One things for sure, Khan is a BUM at the weight.

Beating up no hoper Collazo, and a shopworn midget Alexander was no barometer for the big guns in the division.

Brook would have decapitated him in there last night.

Yup. The guy has mental fortitude, that's for sure. He has the heart of a champion. Anytime a fighter is willing to give it his all, the fans can see it and it should be appreciated.

Huge improvement from him. Khan wasn't at his best but Algieri made him very uncomfortable in there.

I didn't like or respect Algieri before last night and he made a mild fan out of me.

Some things I took away from the fight:

    1) Algieri looks improved now that he has a trainer that let's him out of his cage. Joking, but also serious: glad he got a real trainer.
    2) Khan is not as good as people, and Khan himself, wanted to believe. Improved Algieri or not, that was not an impressive performance by Amir. I'm sure Amir himself is not happy and felt he could have done better.
    3) I'd like to see Algieri in with more top 10 welterweights. Despite the "improvement" he still needs to get a win. Competitive losses and moral victories only count for so much, need to see a W at 147 against a top opponent before I can say he belongs. But I agree with those who say his stock has definitely gone up.
    4) Amir Khan would have a lot of problems with Keith Thurman. Just IMO. I think he would get seriously chin checked.

That was a very good fight and although Khan won, he did not dominate. It's a 50/50 proposition anytime they fight. If they were to fight six months from now it is very probable that Algieri would win. Not taking anything away from Khan, it's just that Algieri is his equal at this point and he should be chomping at the bit for another shot.

    JDJ can CHANGE that.

It's all about learning to sit on his punches more.
We already knew he was a great counterpuncher with excellent backwards D.....now we know that if properly trained that he can fight off the front foot and take a shot. Khan is NO light puncher himself.

I'd like to see Algeri vs someone like Selcuk Aydin.....see if he replicate what Postol did.
Aydin's got serious power, but has TRex syndrome and can be thwarted from the outside.

Algeri coming forward with 1-2's, then moving Aydin and countering.... and he can possibly stop Aydin, and make Guerrero's performance against Aydin look cowardly.

A couple fights vs lower top 30s and Algeri could essentially be right back in the mix for another title fight.:thumbsup And he might actually score some KD's and KOs along the way.:good

    Agree.

I think a guy like Guerrero would be a good measuring stick for Algieri to see if he belongs in the top 10. That's a pick 'em fight for me and could be kind of entertaining.

Sadam Ali, Chaves, heck...Maidana. All good matchups. I think Algieri belongs in the lower-top-10, a slot or two behind Khan.
