    I thought the fight was a Draw.
    I never saw a guy move backwards the whole 10 rounds before.
    The only time Cassius Clay walked forward, was when the bell rang, and he had to walk back to his corner.

    I had it 2-2-6 (6 Rounds Even!!)
    A very weak effort by Clay,,,,,,,,

    :!:damn! i haven't even seen the fight yet (but have read about it and the notably poor ringside reactions to both clay's performance and the decision). you're quite a well of knowledge sir

    Cassius Clay was still only 19, and 7-0-0 (5 KO's)

    I still can't figure out if Cassius Clay won more than 2 Rounds.
    It was a slap-fest.
    Bad scoring from the judges;
    6-0-4
    5-2-3
    3-2-5

    Alonzo chased and chased. Cassius ran and ran.
    Not that Alonzo, at 27, and 6' 0" 189 lbs. was some kind of hard-hitter.
    He was only 18-7-0 (6 KO's).
    Only a couple of fights earlier, Willie Pastrano, no hard-hitter himself, slapped
    Alonzo all over the ring.

    I have seen this fight (patty-cake game) many times.
    It's still a DRAW.
    Hometown decision.

    Ha ha, yeah incredible that a heavyweight champion would have the temerity to take on a Top Ten contender. Just stunning really stunning.

    Muhammad Ali should have retired after the Alfredo Evangilista fight.
    The Boxing World owed him one, and ABC-TV handed it to him on a Howard Cosell silver-platter.

    Ken Norton really deserved the next shot, after the horrible Yankee Stadium Decision.
    Everyone knew that.

    ali was very poor against jimmy young. Taken into context this was for the title.

    The berbick fight was only bad if you make comparisons with what ali had been. In this fight ali was a retired ex champion considered shot and rusty against a genuine live contender. Berbick was a tough handful who did not take prisoners. ali still contained him, it was close.

    Does anybody remember, Ali wanted to fight Mike Weaver for the WBA Heavyweight Title, right after Weaver stunningly KO'd John Tate.

    Ali's management team almost got it done, until the public 'media and sports writers'
    chastized him.
    The real champion was Larry Holmes.

    In 'Truth, Fact or Fiction', Ali did lose the 'title' to Jimmy Young,,,,,,,,

    I have always thought that Ali's second run as champion was a prety poor run. most of that reign he was too shot to dominate a truly world level chalenger but kidded his way through with experience and reputation alone. Those 3 fights were close but each chalenger blew it. Neither deserved to be called a champion, they each let a tired titleholder fool around and gave him too much respect.

    I dont think ali was any worse against spinks first time around than he had been against norton, shavers and young. whatever anyone thinks of leon history should credit spinks for stepping up and calling ali's bluff when beter fighters did not.

    The Earnie Shavers fight, ranked #17,,,,,,,
    Was a good performance by Ali, in taking punches.
    But I would not consider it a great fighting performance.

    For his age at the time though, it was a good overall fight.

    very good post and pretty accurate (though i give ali's second run as champ a touch more credit)

    norton clearly lost the 2nd fight (much to my chagrin i've yet to sit down and watch the third) and my most people's accounts young and shavers did just enough to loss. young especially did nothing but try (and succeed) in making ali look bad. shavers gave it a solid effort and a draw argument could be made but it'd be weak. he took his foot off the gas too much.

    if you're gonna let an old, well past his prime champ trick you and outhustle you, you don't get the title
